I just got the Compadre so a bit early to say, but I think I'm disappointed with the depth, from air tests. I'm straining to target a quarter over 4.5 inches at All Metal setting I think. I just feel there must be some way to get more depth, but maybe the small coil is the killer.
- Crazy thought - I'm considering the concept of a "parasitic" external coil design that fits around the standard coil with the intent of broadening and deepening the magnetic field. Any thoughts on that?
- I'm very interested in any extra tweak pots that could be easily wired in that could increase the depth or help adjust it to perform better. The sensitivity control sounds good, but would it really help, or is the detector already at the edge of chatter anyway and no more sensitivity possible?
- Crazy thought - is there any way we could boost the voltage of the transmit coil, such as by simple step-up transformer, to penetrate the ground further?
- Has anyone tried NiMH 9v rechargeable batteries in the Compadre, do they work OK? Any thoughts about wiring in a connector for a belt-worn battery pack to buy more cost effective batteries?
