  • Compadre Mod

Has anyone played with sensitivity (VR4) on Compadre PCB? I read that (PEPSO) did this and was wondering if anyone else has tried. I would like to add pot and resistor for Maxboost, but was wondering if anybody has done this and what were results.

    Thanks

    Laser Scout

I have a Laser Scout which comes out of the factory installed with a compadre rev2 pcb (same machine different packaging). The front panel has a sensitivity switch (B10K) as standard this is connected by 3 wires to VR4, I hope this is of some help.

      Thanks TimUK1

I have made this mod and it worked out great for me. I think the next thing I would like to do is create a threshold circuit (board) to add to the Compadre to accurately tune ground balance.

I think you'll be lucky to get a reply to your post from John. Did you see the date? -> 04-07-2005, 03:08 AM ... and he last logged-in on the 8th Dec 2005.

Hopefully someone else can provide the answer.

Actually, I got a email from Terry. First time on the board in years. Good to be back. Pulled the old Compadre out of storage last night to remember just what I did five years ago. LOL!

Anyone experience any inconsistancy in Compadre behavior?
Mine sometimes goes into a constant beeping state after I turn it on.
Sometimes though it is perfectly fine and a very awesome detector - really quite amazing. I am not bumping it inbetween uses so I really don't get it. I'm going to have to spend some bench time with a scope to figure this out. I thought it may be bad trimpots so I will just replace them all.
This unit has been to Tesoro twice and it worked fine for them. I'd also like to know what your trim procedure is. I note that the sensitivity (trim)pot you guys talk about can only adjust so far before the ground balance becomes a nuisance. Perhaps another pot works in conjunction here - like helps center the ground balance or the swing response to a target? I have so much metal around my bench area - may have to take the scope out somewhere and use a power inverter with it and a battery...

I'm sorry for my "bad english", but i'm french and not very good student!!
I do the mod to my compadre and i'm very happy by the good results i have!!
i aded ground balanced and maxboost, with a 1k POT for max boost
No problem with this mod, if the compadre become unstable, just decrease SENS and all is OK.
I'm just loocking for a mod to add "static" mode ( just for adjust ground balanced easy)
If you haven't mod your compadre yet, DO IT!!! BY

The mod i do is the Johnc240 mod's(see in this post!)
                            I removed VR4 and i have mounted a 10K potentiometer.
I 've also add a potentiometer 1K for "maxboost"
I've also removed VR2? (not sure but you can found this mod in this forum) and mounted a 10 turn potentiometer.
My compadre work fine, SENS max, and adjust with max boost, GEB tuned with piece off ferrite.
Now, i can use my compadre on beach, with adjust off GEB.
I really have no problem!!, very good mod, just be careful with soldering iron and it's ok!!
                            Good luck!!

Pepso then is ivconic nowaday very active, very commicable! where is he now who know? he shared much schematics for us, magic guy!

There can be added panel mounted sensitivity knob very easily, because there are free solder pads intended for the potentiometer. Just remove VR4 trimmer and connect potentiometer with one resistor.
Add the slim-line coil connector also and I believe after that your Compadre is upgraded to Laser Scout or Cutlass MicroMax.
