  • Pinpointers TOPIC

    "....Hi,
my pinpointer is from a KT315's schematic... he draw from reverse eng. of the pcb of automax precision version 2. You can see it in the picture, all by bjts, no ics.

Ivconic followed other tesoro's designs to make the PP mod on TGS! i like it... I made something similar but I think is lost in this thread at unknown page...many months ago... but I never tested it.

The reference inductances are those of uMax coils... you can read some values here: http://geotech.thunting.com/cgi-bin/...oils/index.dat

In concentric there's something 5.6-5.75mH at TX and usually around 6.2mH at RX.

Now... actually we are interested mainly in DD config... but use slight different values about inductances... we get about 5.45mH for TX and 5.6-5.7mH for RX in Ivconic's DD design.

Notice that in tesoro's 11'' DD is something 5.90 at Tx and 5.38 at Rx, but consider also that our DD goes deeper !
With original one 11'' you'll get it run around 14Khz or below... but with our DD here you'll get around 14.6 - 14.69Khz (100 turns).

    Kind regards,
    Max.."

Max you should opened new topic like this one.
TGS thread turns diluted with various off topic subjects.
As Tech part is already spoiled with LRL (REMOTE) nonsences. "Beleivers" are not happy with such low interest in their nonsences there at REMOTE SENSING so they decided to come here and spoil everything with a bunch of nonsences and pseudo science...already seen many times in the past.

    However...since you mentioned pinpointers...hmmm.
I will give you a short overview here on probably the best PP i ever saw so far.
It can detect 1e coin at 12cm in the air and 8cm in soil!!! Almost like most of handmades here

What is strange, i saw two identical devices in same package, enlosure etc.
One is this one on photo-Skill and other was Bosch. Skill works much better, as i said 1e coin at 12cm, and Bosch barely 6-7cm on same coin!? But devices looks exactly the same!?
On larger items this Skill performs even better! 1l paint can can detect at almost 35cm!!!
An the price was 75e at local shop.

    Enjoy!

      Hi,
      I see...
well... probably it's a stud detector... I don't know it.

12cm are possible using PI pinpointers ... but the Automax is old style... just 2'' for a coin.

Anyway I find it good for actual purposes...

There are 4-5 pinpointer schematics in these forums but I think the Automax is one usable for real... others have too limitations in design, though the automax's one is really simple too!

I don't know why the 2 you posted are so different... maybe there's something at tuning that make the difference.

      Kind regards,
      Max

          Hi KT315,
          thanks for the schematic!

          It works absolutely cool!

And coil is also very easy...

          Kind regards,
          Max

ivconic, what is the model number on the Skil device? I googled in Skil detector and 550 came up, not sure if I can buy it here in the US.
How do you like using it, is it handy to use to pinpoint while detecting?
I must be out of my mind, I already have 4 pinpointers , guess I like collecting them.
            Regards,
            Steve

              It says:

              " Skil 550
              Detector Battery 9V 6LR61
              CE 2007 FO15055001
              Ser.nr. 784002377
              Skil Europe BV
              KONIJNENBERG 60,BREDA-NL 8C1"

It's my damn poor camera again! Cant shot close details sharper, sorry!

              Cheers!

                Oh yes Steve,
mostly i am taking Spectrum with me on the field, which is very deep and accurate detector. Yet, when using deep custom program, pinpointing is not accurate with it, so this Skil helps much! Many times small item appear at side of a hole, not center. Without this nice pp i could dig deeper and deeper, all the way down to China! Good if i want to catch olimpic games a bit!
I do recommend this one for sure!
                Regards!

                  You provoked me to search and see;

"• Detection depth: ferrous metal up to 80mm, copper 60mm, electrical cables 50mm and timber 20mm.."

                  Look how modest they are!?
Actually device showed much better performances than in this advertisment!!
Quite oposite than in many advertisments for hobby metal detectors! Wow!

                  http://www.axminster.co.uk/user_sear...tor-480436.htm

And if you pay attention, down to page there is that Bosch i tested . Works nice also, but Skil is deeper much!? And Bosch is more expensive!? Must be the brand thing!?

What really amazing me is "timber detection" feature!!! It works for real, and it works much deeper!?
How the hell they managed that!? What is the catch!?
I would like to understand that better!
                    Someone can help?
                    Explain?

Thanks ivconic for the info, it appears they are not available here in the States else I would have to buy it and see .
Maybe Eugene can run a search and see if they are here, it appears Bosch and Skil are the same company, the Skil website says " Robert Bosch Tool Corporation".

All made of trash... but works cool!

The packing competition is formally open!

                        Kind regards,

Nice. You can use "junk" from old PCBs of electronic equipments. Specially for these cases!
