Patents are an exceptional source of information for learning and understanding metal detector operation. A patent consists of two primary parts: the body and the claims. The body is where the patentee is suppossed to teach what it is they wish to patent. The claims are the specific methods or devices the patentee wants to protect from infringement. The body is where you will learn the most and is usually accompanied by drawings, plots, and schematics. Unfortunately, most patents are dry and full of legalese (more so the claims than the body) and can be difficult to read. The patents listed on Geotech are primarily US patents. Eventually the lists will expand to include more patents from WIPO and individual countries. Assistance in identifying new patents is appreciated and PDFs even more so.
