  • Looking for LM308

    hi,

me and a friend of mine are building the TGSL, the only part that is missing are the LM308 op-amps, no distributor has it on stock so I ordered some on ebay from China but it seems like they ripped me off (30days now and nothing received yet).

Therefore I wanted to ask if anyone has some spare LM308 for sale and can make me a reasonable offer for 4 pieces

    Thanks!

You really don't need an LM308. You can use tl061, 71 or 81 with same results. If you really want the LM308s though you can try Jameco. They usually have a lot of old oddball stuff. http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/sto...freeText=lm308

Thanks for the hint! TL op-amps are easy to get and definitely worth a try! Can you recommend a specific one? It seems like they also come in different grades (TL0x1CN, TL0x1ACP etc.)

        rs-components have them,
        recently got some myself,
if i remember correctly they were £0.46 each,
        minimum order of 10 though.
        hope this helps.
sometimes ebay is NOT the place to go.

          computer says no http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/operat...rs/2508260070/

I think they don't even produce them anymore, anywhere I've looked they were about 5 euros or more per piece, excluding shipping. Seems like the op-amp is quite popular among guitar players for some effect pedals because it has some sort of unique and crappy sound

          Thanks anyway

I used some OP07's which are also obsolete but they were designed to replace the 308's.
I got some 308's in metal from Israel that were supposed to be Raytheon but when they showed
up a month later were from China! They were real noisy so I had to swap them out...

I get stuff really fast from Digikey:

                http://www.digikey.com/product-searc...=0&pageSize=25

Silverdog had been including tl081cn with his kits. I don't know much about the differences though, and cannot tell from the projects I have built.
I think I had the best luck with TL061's, but that's just an opinion.
                Don.

Both 061 and 081 behave oddly if inputs are at very different potentials. LM321/358/324 family behaves more predictably, but are very noisy.
You always must know the purpose of op amp to pitch it for a purpose. All op amps will behave as op amps in case you remain in their normal operation limits, but may perform very differently otherwise. It is often said that op amps may do as comparators, but it is not true for many op amps. It works with LM321/358/324 but not so much with TL061/071/081.

Stuff from China usually arrives. Just takes several weeks. I find this site useful for cross referencing components: http://english.electronica-pt.com/co...ross-reference
