Seems to be an influx in people selling metal detector kits and PCB's if rather expensive. Above is just one example.

I'm not surprised. They're all from Bulgaria.

Sinko is OK.(crazytech website) I bought his XR71 ages ago, and it is a very good performer. Was meaning to get VP2, as it has selectable frequencies via a jumper- I look for small gold machines. From what I can see he has modified a few common designs. He plays his cards very close to his chest.
Newhobby (Violin) does similar, but his boards are half the price, plus he supplies a schematic CD, and even an etch with some of his boards, if you ask nicely.
I wish both of them all the best, and anyone else who contributes to our hobby.
Newhobby NH5 was mediocre- until I made a 6 inch tuggle style coil@290uH for it- now it matches my SMPro w/10x5DDCommander.(Ebay Tacoma56 kit).
A few searches for detector kits I only came up with these 2, but Bulgarian detectors I got Tangra Goldenmask Detech Nexus SKG Mikron and EasyRad(who do a GPX4500 analog).
Not sure if these are all Bulgarian. There's also the AKA from Russia.
If you are interested have a look at emporion359.com - Heaps of 'tectas, goodies and accessories !!

Does anyone know which of these would stand up to the brutal mineralisation here in Oz?

            @Vulcan
it is surf pi, a bit modified, have three of them
Audio Output ist a bit low, but connect it to PAM8403 5V Stereo 2 x 3W Output Digital Audio Amplifier Module

but Attention dont cut off the LED, it will not work without the LED

i think best Performer in the analog class of pi design is still the baracuda pi, if you ever find a kit of it grab it

the are still more powerfull machines but bara is my favourite

Yes Bernte is right. Violin(newhobby) told me it was a variation of the Surf. I have not compared schematics, but probably some minor changes he has gleaned from the Russian Forums.
If you were inclined to buy a completed board, this would be worth a try. He is great value. Baracuda is a great detector too. Silverdog kits are a good option.
Personally I would like to know what the NH-5 (Attiny2313) PI is based on...?

I need to get to some of my projects. I bought Silverdogs IDXpro. And got a 6x4 Bluemax shooter for a reference coil, cheap, off Ebay. But then accidentally found an original IDXpro box and topshaft, with Mr. Bill mods. So the Silverdog got put on the back-burner. Since then I've bought the Silverdog IGSL Musk, the MP, and the Chance+Atmega. Still have a newhobby 2 board Magnum to do, and recently got 10 Hammerhead RevDs made. I have all necessary components + accumulated.
                    Gotta pull me finger out!

Sounds like you have accumulated a number of possible projects.............best bet now is to pick one and get going on it. Collecting projects is fun, when you have too many, funny how none ever get finished. Winter is just around the corner....plenty of time.... to build. have my share...

                        Cheers for the advice guys
yeah the goal is to one day build my own and the fun learning curve that comes with doing that
researching every day so getting more confident that I can do it successfully.

as for the pre built boards I'll keep an eye out for a bara but new hobby is great on price so will try his out for the heck of it, the other contenders are crazy techs dbp 2010 modified or vandal pulse z15

i have an xterra 705 for general purpose but I have a couple of old detectors I'm going to try to re purpose into pi's ( an old compass 77b and a garrett ace 150) something I can use at the beach and the occasional nugget hunting trip

                        thanks

Rest assured Sven -they will get done. I am just in the last stages of my Cert II Horticulture, and propagating seeds and cuttings, with recording results, OH&s etc.,etc.,etc.
I want to get that done and dusted before un-packing the electronics again. As far as winter goes, it's nearly summer here, and being on the pastoral(desert) fringe we rarely have "inside" days- let alone months. Only down to 11C mid-winter days, but regular 40C+ summer ones.
Yeah, I try to complete each to a finished detector to avoid a bench-full of half done projects.

i think it is also some clone of clone pi w or something similiar, he has also another Project with led bargraph
