so how my chips do you have to buy forom different sellers and at a cost before you end up buying a non fake one.
would it be easier to just rip out the board and look for another working one.........anyone got one going?

How do you differentiate fake from original?

I think, rather the expensive semiconductors are faked

As a general rule, don't buy chips off of eBay. Many are either salvaged or fake. Unless you are looking for obsolete device, eBay should be last resort.

Well if it's National Semiconductors, you see correct company logo, but you also expect to see stripe at one end.
Someone should do research on this issue because I don't even think national semiconductors exist anymore. They were bought over by Texas instruments maybe? Can't remember.

Or you could try NTE equivalent replacement chip. Nobody fakes these.

is there a common circuit board out there that these chips are used on that you can salvage one from.

TL081 should work good for getting the detector up and running. It is single Jfet opamp

Any audio preamp equipment circuit board, like mixers, will have a tonne of op amps to salvage, especially lf356/357.
Look for the vintage audio mixers console, people throw them out, these are the ones that have the opamp bonanzas.

The pictures I posted above are modern consoles, but you get my drift. The older ones.
