  • WTB Whites 4900/D Pro Plus Professional coil

I need a standard 6B 8" coil for the above detector.

Carl; do you have any suggestions on how to repair a broken coil for this detector???
it has a broken bottom plate. I don't know if it is worth repairing the coil.

The coil in the Pic is not what I have on this machine it is white and blue so I don't know if it is even the right one. It was given to me to fix or replace the coil for a friend of mine in Utah.

I have an option to buy a complete working detector off eBay for 40 but don't know if the coils will interchange???

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely
    Bill "Lost Adams"
PS I'm not getting paid for this it's just a favor!

i think the 6B is correct for the 'Pro' series. Did you try it? The easiest way to repair a broken bottom plate is to add a scuff cover to the coil, if you can still find one. Otherwise, the repair depends on where it is broken.

Carl it is completely split in two. I was wondering about the Black stuff inside the coil, is it necessary to have it continuous across the bottom?
What is the difference in the Black coils vs. the White and Blue and do you know which came stock with the MD?

Sorry for being such a pest!
      Thank You for your help.

No difference between white & black coils that I know of. I thought the 4900 pro plus always came with the white 8" coil. There was a later 4900 dl/max that had the black coil.
Internally, the black stuff is the carbon shield paint. Yes, you want it continuous.
Is the coil split because someone split it, or did it break somewhere other than along the seam?

          Thanks Carl;
The coil looks to have had something "heavy dropped, stepped on, or run over" it by.
the connector for the lead is Broken also, IE snapped off at the junction with the top coil body, but wire is still intact.
the inside potting compound, around the coil-wire, is cracked in places parallel to the wire, but wire doesn't appear to move any when touched or wiggled.

where could I get some carbon shield paint???
should little foam standoff inside that touches little wire to shield paint be slathered/thickly smeared to coil inside bottom?
additionally I finished breaking the coil in two when I removed it from the upper body.
I have MEK and old coil covers not round though to make New Glue. It just wouldn't look pretty.
I have considered just buying a Non-Function detector from ebay for under $50, but don't know which one to get that the coil will work in the 4900.

This coil sounds too far gone. Before going any further you should verify that it still works. Shield paint is MG Chemicals 838AR. The foam standoff is conductive and connects the top & bottom shields to the cable, it just needs to press against the shield paint.

For a replacement, I suspect any coil that works on a 4900 Series2 and up will work for you. Probably also the 5000 and 6000 S2 & up.

I have just purchased a coil from Centerville Electronics in VA.
                Cost me $129.00 plus shipping.
Paul spent about 40 min on the phone testing two coils that were recomended and told me the one that got the deepest.
I also bought some shaft extensions.
Thank You Carl for your help!
