Maybe I just got a bum book, or if others have had this issue maybe the publisher should know & correct before printing the 2nd edition...I'm not complaining though, love this book! - thx
I don't know what's happened to your book, but my main copy is probably one of the most dog-eared in the world; and it still remains in one piece.

Many thx rickb, I think there's room, I'll look into getting it rebound - & the "lay flat" would be nice!

There is no new material, just lots of corrections and the removal of the LRL stuff. This trims the book by 50 pages or so, and the price drops to $29.Those who want the 1st edition should contact White's or Kellyco. Some local dealers may also have a copy.- Carl
I also got great value (& fun) from the LRL section of 1st Ed (so thx for that Carl & George) - I didn't know anything of them but was quite sceptical of the claims - & got the truth of them from the book - glad I read the LRL section! Didn't realize just how bogus they are...here there be dragons...haha

Hmmm, ok thx Qiaozhi, I probably just got one where the glue was light or something, no process is perfect... Many thanks for authoring this book - I refer to it often & get a lot of info & ideas from it - well done!

How to prevent paper-backed books to fall apart?

Paper-backed books easy fall apart if not adapted to frequent use.

We need minute only to adapt p-b book for use.

Some cheap p-b book look like this:

We need to impress folding line in both side of book cover near (about 10mm) its back,
using ruler and back side of kitchen knife:

In next step we begin to fold cover and book inner sheets according impressed line
(repeat the same from other side):

Book is ready for frequent use in lab:

As you've spotted, the Second Edition of Inside the METAL DETECTOR is now available on amazon.com ->
                http://www.amazon.com/Inside-Metal-D...DDMSEQ5SG7TWCJ

It can also be found on all the Amazon european sites, but not amazon.co.uk for some reason.

The majority of changes and updates were only minor, such as typos, grammatical issues, or
discrepancies between the schematics and parts lists. A lot of the schematic problems were
introduced when the original Easy-PC schematics were manually redrawn using Microsoft Visio.
This time around we have tried harder with our proof-reading, and attempted to eliminate all the
                    previous errors.

Some constructors had problems getting the TX oscillator of the Off-resonance Pinpointer to start
up. Consequently, the design has been slightly modified to provide an adjustable bias, which allows
for variations in component tolerance. The description of the automatic tracking circuit was also
rewritten to make it easier to understand.

The PI-5 circuit (that was published in Edition 1) was an earlier prototype, as (due to a broken OLE
link in FrameMaker) we accidentally published the wrong version. Several readers were very
interested in this novel design, and the issue has now been resolved.
Details of a useful damping resistor adjustment tool have been included at the end of Pulse
Induction Principles (Chapter 11), along with some simple calculations to assist in determining the
                    correct value.

The Coil Calculator information (Appendix A) has been updated with a more comprehensive
explanation of the calculator equations. In Edition 1 it was not immediately clear how the Brooks
equation was being implemented in the program code, as only the full equation was shown. The
reader was required to perform some tedious mathematical manipulation to try and figure out how
the code actually worked. Although (as you might expect) not many actually bothered to do that.
Now the inner workings of the code have been exposed, and things should be much clearer.
The list of patents has been further extended (Appendix B), and a section on navigating The Patent
Minefield has been added, just in case anyone has invented the World's Best Ground Balance, and is
                    thinking about protecting the idea.

The have been far too many minute corrections to list them all here, but you should find (if you
already have a copy of ITMD Edition 1) that we have made improvements to many of the technical
descriptions where the meaning could be misinterpreted, or possibly misunderstood. Some of these
corrections were prompted by our readers, whom we thank for their feedback.

The second edition is also about 50 pages lighter. We have removed the chapters on
Long Range Locators and the Pistol Detector. The reason these chapters were
included in the First Edition was because there is a broad interest in LRLs and most of
the available information (and public perception) is just plain wrong. We wanted to
get accurate information into published literature. The Pistol Detector project was an
extension of LRLs, showing how it is easy to create a non-dowsing LRL that can produce
misleading results. Now that we’ve succeeded in publishing all this information,
we’ve removed it to make ITMD more focused on real detecting technology. Perhaps
in the future we’ll release a much-expanded look into the wacky world of LRLs.

In the future we do have plans for a book that goes deeper into metal detector technology, but it's not beyond the initial planning phase. That is, we've discussed it and generated a List of Contents, so that's it so far. The plan is to include some more advanced subjects, and additional technologies such as multi-frequency, magnetometers, resistivity and security walkthrough. However, don't hold your breath, as it's a long way off yet.

                      Great.
Is it possible to buy direct from you Qiaozhi - payment by Paypal?
Amazon does not take Paypal payment.
Or maybe you will put it on eBay?

Any particular reason you didn't also do the kindle book option? I'm just curious as I remember looking into it and the eBook route was way better for the author, financially speaking, than the print on demand. It will be strange too. I haven't bought an actual book (on paper) since the last Harry Potter book came out.

The main reason we decided to publish the second edition through Amazon was to avoid problems of shipping from the USA to the UK (with some books becoming damaged in the process), advertising on either eBay and/or Amazon, and then shipping to all corners of the world. At first it was exciting to see the orders arriving, and stuffing books into jiffy bags; but eventually the novelty has worn off. So unfortunately I cannot ship direct, as basically I don't have stock. Everything is shipped directly from Amazon.

If you don't have a credit card, I suppose you could pay me via PayPal. Then I could order the book from Amazon and have it shipped direct to your address. Alternatively, you might want to look at this -> http://www.weusepp.com/blogs/paypal-...-paypal-amazon

We both decided it would be too easy for some unscrupulous people to pirate the contents.

Seems that interesting alternative you linked is limited to USA only:
"Shipped only within the United States."

I have credit card, but I am not happy to spread CC data around on every purchase on Amazon.

What would be Total for 1pcs, alternatively 2pcs, ordered by your intermediated help?

It would better if you go to your preferred Amazon site (amazon.de, amazon.fr, amazon.com ??) and put the item in your cart. Once you know the total price (including shipping) let me know by PM how much it is, plus give me your full postal address. Then I will order the book(s) as requested using my own Amazon account, and let you know the price once it's been converted to GBP. You can then reimburse me in GBP using PayPal.
