George Payne, who was working for Whites Electronics back then, began testing for frequencys in 1973. He came up with his design in 1974, and Whites went into model production in 1975. The unit was set at 1.782 KHz frequency. One of the units was given by Ken White Sr to Rocky LaGaye, who took it to Texas along the sea shores. Rocky found it TOO SENSITIVE, said it "even found the SMELL of iron"... Now I was a Whites dealer back then, so I got a copy of Rocky's test.
Here is that test...

Now George Payne, since I was a dealer, I got George Payne's document, which was inside the Whites magazine, and since it was very enlightening, I am going to put it right here... Sorry, something happened. I will try again... Ahhhh Heck, I give up, I could not stick it into this place....
Yep, I "enhanced both of these copies, for greater clarity", and both are very enlightening. Now up in the NW, Allan Cannon, had one of these Coinmaster V Supremes, he used his in old parks and old sites, and praised that machine immensely! He found old coin after old coins... But in 1976, Whites by then had so many complaints, because of its depth and sensivity, that Whites changed the frequency, from 1.782 KHz over to 6.592, and it was then more stable as far as its sensivity and depth. Whites also later on, in 1976, stuck in a TR discrimination circuit, and later on, they came out with a new coil in either 1977 or 1978. I got a 1976 Supreme with that new coil and with the revised TR discriminator in it... By then. Allan Cannon had sold his 1.782 KHz frequency Supreme, had the newer 6.592 unit, and said the depth was no longer in the machine and he was disappointed in the unit!
