  • Karl von Mueller........Treasure Hunter

Karl von Mueller, was a ficticious user name, his real name was Carl Dean Miller, he was a descendant of Volga Germas who emigrated to eastern Nebraska. He is deceased today. He moved from Nebr to southern Colorado, and i was one of his many dealers. I sold his dredge, so I will post first the technical material related to his dredge. I did not like it though, I preferred the Compass Electronics dredge. And as far as Colorado gold placer regions, it was easier to lay down to aluminum sluice box units, with riffles in them, and just shovel material into the first sluice box unit. But that was myself, and not necessarily what others might do. I will admit I used Garretts green gold pans, wooden rocker units, and metal detectors as well.

First, the above, are some posts of guys who bought the information, or the actual Spartan dredge. Now I used it, it was too heavy to carry for a one man operation, as far as my own thoughts go. But for a strong nearby river, it would suffice. I like light weight gold equipment myself. It was rugged, and heavy to carry. So I tried it, and then sold it. I liked the Compass Electronics dredge units. Here below is the technical material to build it yourself... MELBETA

Now a lot of people do not know this secret, before Karl von Mueller, hired Garrett, and also hired Whites Electronics, the metal detector that Karl made, used, and sold, came from a variation of these 1955 plans in an electronic magazine... So you see you even know now! MELBETA

Since I just revealed the 1955 plans, I am going to stick in a posting collection, which is about the 100 KHz frequency units VS the lower FREQUENCY units, and also discusses some VERY RARE metal detectors, which are so are so rare they disappeared from sight. Read this SLOW, and take notes if you like guys........ Now I THINK this is what I just said, I could be wrong, and if it is wrong, I apologize...........(Well, some did not disappear for me as I have some of them myself stored in my basement...)

Not sure what is in the file above, but the file I wanted to stick in here, is RIGHT BELOW...So I have to apologize first, then I stick in the right file below...It is the RIGHT FILE for above...

KARL TIDBITS file is fairly interesting to read, but the reference to Whites Electronics date of their detectors is not correct. But I stick it here as an entire file, as written by someone not known to me...

One thing I have always wanted a definitive answer to is: Was the LUE treasure fabricated by KvM? I'm very certain it was, and I'm pretty certain he did it as a joke. But it was never resolved before he died, and anyone who knows for sure hasn't spilled the cats.

I read his Treasure Hunters manuals back in the 1980's. He described some incredible finds and methods. Good reading, not sure how much of it was factual? After searching many abandoned farms. I realized that I was twenty years late. Thanks for posting Melbeta.

Altra, Karl von Mueller, was factual, but he was very private as well. Now he never said it, but I believe either he, or his family, lost some money during the Great Depression. That is why he buried his money so it could not be found. Now my grand parents, on my father's side, lost their money in the collapse of their bank, in a small town, very near their farm. So they were cautious after that as well, investing the money in farms and enlarging their main farm. People had to be careful with "run-away inflation", "taxes", and "income tax" as well, so they buried their cash money where they could dig it up at night. Some drove a nail into a tree branch, hung a weight on a cord down to the ground, then dug a hole and buried their cash in fruit jars, and other kinds of water proof containers. Removed the cord from the nail, and it was safe until one needed some cash money quick. You stand in line in the government soup lines, and you change your thinking very quickly standing in those lines trying to get something to eat. And one realizes, shoveling animal manure in a corral, into a manure spreader, is not to bad after all, especially if one wears rubber shoes.

I recall WWII as well, Mom got larger containers, and stored flour and sugar in them, as the goverment created food rationing, and made it difficult for their lives. Even gasoline and tires were rationed. So we used the gasoline that was not rationed, which was bought to run the farm tractors and farm trucks. Illegal? Yes it was, but one does what one has to do to survive in those terrible times. My dad and mother planted an 5 acre GARDEN. Was that smart? Very smart it was! I remember them butchering pigs on the farm to get meat cheaper and easier thus avoiding rationing on the butchered meat. After the war was gone, rationing disappeared, so did the large garden. Both grand parents, of mom and dad, had not only large gardens on their farms, but also had fruit orchards. Like I said, one does what one has to do in order to survive. I think bad times are coming in the near future, so it would be good to do some pre-emptive future planning in your have the land for orchards and/or gardens. Weeds do not taste very good as I recall...

Yes, I have done the same thing, searched abandoned farm buildings and abandoned buildings in old mining ghost towns. Found a lot of old tools, coins, jewelry, and kids toys from the past. I have to tell you guys, when opportunity rears its face, jump on it or you will regret it later on. There are a few times, I sold things, like cars, and regretted it later on includng today times...Did not regret it then, but times changed, then regret set into my thinking. That is the way it goes though in life, and sometimes it is worse! Worse? Hell, they drafted me into the military in 1942, here I am in my officer's uniform! I had to serve on our farm! I was working at age 9 years old... Mom taught me to drive our 1937 International 1-1/2 ton truck, with stick shift. Heck, I had to stand up steering it so I could look over the dash board. I was lifting hay up onto the stack, dad was on the hay stack, and mom was out driving the tractor with the hay sweep. Now that was the truth you see. Farm hands were hard to find then as they were drafted right and left into the armed forces...So we kids were drafted by our parents! It may be funny now, but it was not funny then as I grew up learning to do my farm chores too...

                            Melbeta, great life story.

My parents, grand parents, uncles and aunts all lived through the wars and depression. So, I was raised with that mind set. It's been almost 100 years and we will probably see a repeat of this cycle soon.

One thing that I noticed in the farm houses. If they had a fire place, the mantel or hearth was usually pulled apart from the wall. If the house had a second floor the lower steps were missing. These must of been common hiding places? Like you, I was finding relics and bottles, no caches.

                            Take Care!

In the past, I used to drive up into the mountains, as I was the operating broker real estate broker of my business, could take off anytime I wanted to go, and could stay a few days. I like going to the Cripple Creek Mining District, they knew me there at Golden Cycle, I could go there, get written permission, go anywhere on that mountain, and I never dug and kept any of their gold ore. I gave them one of my booklets, and that sealed the deal. I wrote a small booklet from those old mining days...Now that booklet had the really near stuff, I liked to use that booklet to sell my detectors! I had a glass show case, with silver plates, full of vintage Victorian finds... Those were the days my friend, I thought they would never end back then, but they did end!

You see, everything ends sooner of later...It did not end sooner, but it did end later... I quit real estate, opened a mail order business, it took over my life. I sold my house in town. sold the store building, sold my warehouse, sold the house I had my son living in, and moved way out into the sticks in the country. Now I live with wild animals outside. Not going to mention them but some are meat eaters and I carry a gun when I go outside, as I live inside a forest area.I got everything from bears, mountain lions, coyotes, foxes, bobcats, to elk and deer. My gun has lots of bullets with it, they are tracer bullets, can walk them right to the target. I was in military surplus you see. I do not need to use the gun sight... And it is a legal gun, is semi-automatic, not full automatic, and like I said, I can walk the tracer bullets right into the target. So I would never miss if I had to defend myself out here...
And I carry a second one, in case it ever jams...
