Help with old magazine article?

A listener to my podcasts sent me this question. Can you help?

"I’m working on a family tree and need help locating a treasure story. I read this story about a relative in about 1970 in a treasure hunting magazine. It may have been published at other times as well. The story was about two prospectors in California or Nevada that found a cavern with a stream full of gold running through it. They dynamited the entrance closed and one (my possible relative) of the prospectors was killed in the explosion. The other prospector recorded a claim and filed an assay in Reno (as best I can remember)."

...Dan...Are you looking for the specific article...I mean name of magazine and the Vol. number....this story as I recall is called the River of Gold......You can go to one of the forums that have the Legends Forums and look for the "River of Gold"...if that is Not what you want...then you need to be more specific.....Thanks Joe
