I have just had to delete a huge number of posts with links to copyrighted material.
Anyone doing so will receive one warning only. Any further posts will result in the perpetrator being banned.

The administrators of Geotech have a very low tolerance level for such activity.

I'm not sure I understand this George. Just about everything is copyrighted nowadays.
Does this mean I cannot post a link to something of interest anymore?

      like this: https://www.murata.com/support/faqs/.../mlcc/mnt/0001

      Thanks.

If you were to publish a book, and someone photocopied that book or hacked an electronic version to remove the encryption, and then either posted it directly on Geotech or posted a link to a file sharing site, you wouldn't be happy. And quite rightly so, because the book is protected under copyright law.

Although the website above contains a copyright notice, this does not mean you cannot post a link to it. The copyright means that you are not allowed to copy the material and present it as your own. This is basically the same as the book example. The perpetrator in that case has copied the material and distributed it for free.

The posts I had to delete contained links to file sharing sites with recent copies of a popular treasure hunting magazine, plus copies of several books. Clearly this was in violation of Geotech rules.

I hope I'm not violating any rules. I just posted some circuits from old mags. Then I remembered this thread.

A single page from a book copied for education purposes falls under fair use, and should not be banned. A whole book is a completely different thing.
