  • Help with Old Treasure Mags

Needing some help from someone with 1980's treasure mags.
Was wondering if you would do me a huge favor?
In the early-mid 1980's 1983-87?? I made and sold what I believe to be the original handheld "pinpointer". I advertised in two of the most popular treasure type mags of the time. I believe they were both geared mainly to metal detecting?
Anyways usually in the back or front is a page which lists all the paid advertisers in the mag to make it easy for the reader to find the vendors products.
Am wondering if you could look for me in the 82-86 period and see if you don't find a vendor listed called: Audio Tech, Camas WA. I would love to get a copy of the ad or magazines which I advertised in. The pinpointer was called "Lil' General" Thanks man, Phil

      Could be this mags??

Thanks Carl !! That would be swell!
The Name Western & Eastern something .....keeps popping into my head. That either was the name of the mag or perhaps the name of the "Parent" company of the publisher of the rag.
Also I want to think one mag was a treasure mag and one was a Gold type magazine. Both were very popular mags at that time. They would have been the ones most likely to be found in a supermarket.
I could of course be wrong on both accounts but ??? it's a good place to start. I know your a busy guy so I really appreciate your time!!
If anyone else is listening.....thanks to you as well. TB

Went through a sampling of magazines, one from each year of 1982-1986, for Treasure, Western & Eastern Treasure, and Lost Treasure. Was unable to find any ads, sorry. If I get time I will take a look at Gold Prospector next week.

          Audio Tech - Company name

Audio Tech - was the Company name. We sold the "lil'General" Pinpointer as well as 3 versions of an audio booster/clipper until Depth Master took out a patent on the idea. The boosters were called "The Hog", Triple Boost, and a Boost with 10 segment LED intensity meter. This all would have been before DMaster took out a patent which come to think of it may have been about 1984?? Thanks Carl, Phil

It must make you wonder how they could obtain a patent on an idea that is already being manufactured by someone else. Surely that's "prior art".

It's possible DepthMaster filed the patent before Audio Tech started selling theirs. Plus you get an extra year before the filing date for the priority date. Then it boils down to who has documented evidence on first concept.

Phil, looks like the DepthMaster patent was 1987, so things could have happened later than you recall.

                The Mind is the 1st......

the first to go...the mind that is. Or so they say, I can think of something else that quit working so good before that though.
Carl , you could be right, maybe it was a year or so later than I remembered. I do know that I got into Gold mining and out of the detector electronics business before D/Master got a patent on the amplifier. Maybe we advertised our stuff in the Mags then 1984 to 86.
Well anyways hope someone can find me a copy of the Ads for the handheld pinpointers we made back then. That was something I wish I would have held onto as now everyone has one. Back then we were the first as far as I know. Maybe I could afford that Big Bud Pro that I want so badly now.

                  Pinpointer Ad Found 1986!

Thanks Tom for finding the Ad for our "lil General" handheld pinpointer! I appreciate your effort. 25 years ago is a long time and I just couldn't quite remember when we manufactured that thing.
Tom writes and says ""I think this is what you are looking for. Found it in Sept 86 issue of W&E Treasures on page 51. Tom""

Can't imagine how much $$$ I could have made in that time had I stuck with the product idea. It just never caught on then till a few years later and I had already built them for several years. I quit that gig in about 86'-87' and went off to bigger and better things. Now everyone uses them!
