Understanding and Using Your Metal Detector
    By Bill Lahr
Bill Lahr is well-known in the treasure hunting community. He has hand-built many types of metal detectors. He began experimenting with Pulse Induction in the 1980s. Pulse detectors could handle black sand, but were heavy, had to be swept slowly, and had poor sensitivity to gold. After eight years of testing and refining various circuits in the field, under the worst ground conditions imaginable, he designed the Surfmaster Pulse. Its combination of fast target response, fully automatic tuning, ease of use, long battery life and high sensitivity to gold made it the choice for hunting black sand and saltwater beaches. In this detailed and informative book, he shares his years of experience with many types of metal detectors. Topics include:
    · Getting Started: Selecting a Detector for Your Conditions
    · Saving Money on “Flea Market” Detectors: Deep Seeking Bargain or Antique?
    · A Buyer’s Guide to Metal Detector Types: Advantages and Disadvantages
    · Beach, Surf and Inland Hunting Techniques for Success
    · Detector “Myths”
    · Accessories and Recovery Tools
    · Modification and Repair Tips
    · Cleaning and Managing Your Gold and Silver
    · Getting the Most from the Detector You Have
    and much more…

    Prestige Publications, 2012

Publisher's note: This author has an encyclopedic knowledge of the hobby--pulse machines in particular. The book contains detailed information on building and fine-tuning pulse circuits.

    Just ordered, thanks.

BTW, my first really satisfying working detector (after a lot of unusable BFO construction and some, not much better, VLF try), was PI build in autumn 1985 according William Lahr article published in Elrad magazine.

      Book received.

Must say that it is still mystery to me, what is this book real price.

I send first $27.00 to "cliveclynick" by PayPal ($19.95 as stated here + $7 for international shipping as on his web page).

Then he asked back for $5 more without any explanation, I asked back for explanation, and got in return repeated money request without any explanation. Ok I sent $5 more. I got book today - together with sense of a little poor business.

Now, after skim the book, I can say that it is worth its money.

        Re/ Bill's Book

        HI WM6
Bit of a mix up there-- actually in that Bill's book is 200+ pages and costs more to ship than any of mine as shown on my site. International costs something like $14.80. I did cancel my request for the extra $5 (total $12) and said that we would ship to your for the $7 but you paid it anyhow. In that I'm doing this as a favor to Bill (and to make this excelllent book available to begin with) I kept the $5. The book was still shipped to you below cost--just that you were the first international order --didn't know how much it would be. Hope you put Bill's information to good use; there is a lot in there. Thanks for your order.

Hi cjc, I am sorry for mess. Probably those repeated request for additional money without explanation was automated in connection to pay-pal system, I don't know. There is no problem for additional money if I got adequate explanation. Yes books are heavy things and in international shipping can cost more than book itself. Thanks for explanation what happen behind of my field of view, I accept in whole.

Regarding mentioned book, it is written in quite popular manner, but still from technical point of view. But if someone want all comprehensive knowledge about understanding and using metal detectors in one place, this is right book to buy, to have, to read and to consult from time to time.

Thanks WM6 for the info... as we have much profits from the Schematics from Mr.Lahr...

Hope I like the book... as much as the schematics.
