      Your welcome my friend
There was a few people who promised me a copy but only one of them actually put words into actions, he scanned them off his own owners handbook.
The chap owns two of them one of which was from new the other second hand.
Was also offered second hand one from someone else but he wanted to much for it, and to be honest if they have been used in salt water theres a good chance its knacked and requires rebuild because the seals on them were giving out after a couple of years both with the coil and the housings and together with a weak coil plug the actual construction of them wasn't that good.
Have put the word out to try and get a cheap one even if its in bits and not working, I have the bug with these Detectors more than any others I think its because theres more to them than meets the eye both in performance and mystery to how it can distinguish between ferrous and non ferrous which far as I know with pulse induction format has never been equaled, and to top that its a 25 year old design.
Not going to build my hopes up but have been given a recent email address for Jim who designed it and it looks as though he is still into detectors but on the retail side of things, so have sent him a nice email requesting if he could do me the honor of supplying me with a circuit diagram and technical data of his master piece.
Not going to hold my breath but if we got that then happy days, anyway got to think positive.

Here are some more interesting pictures to look at, notice the red tape round the plug, it was going round the trade to do that even when new because of the inferior seal .

      Regards

another yes please here too, i have i hunch that more than one version is out there, the only way to know for sure it to get lots of board pics from different ones, a mate of mine has one his coil is yellow(not a surf coil) its just like the others but its yellow plastic, his case is black too not see through like others i have seen posted.
unfortunately he lives 400 miles south from me, and i dont see him often, but i'm convinced that the guy who designed it made them a lot later than we think, maybe small runs or even one offs, i tell you one thing for definite, the battery pack on his(he has two), one a plain one to use 6 ordinary aa batteries and a nickel metal hydride pack both have anchor stickers on them(all other pack i have seen pics of are nicads), when i go back down to cornwall in september i plan to meet up to take pics.
his unit is obviously later than the type used by alexismex to build the project, so please post your pics.
p.s forgot to say, his also has no coil plugs either, a sealed pigs tail on the coil and one on the back of the detector, and a really long wire that has to be wrapped around the shaft.

              Hi Sinclair
I may well be in Cornwall in September like ever year normally around 17th for 10 days so if your going and location is close maybe we could meet up for a few hours bleeping session.

Interesting find thanks to Frank , One of his pictures taken from original Barracuda shows U1 as MC14584BCP from Motorola which states in specification quote designed for high noise immunity, also lower power consumption, which both of these factors are very important to any design MD.
The MC14584BCP is well obsolete so have ordered the MC14106B which Motorola recommended its later version with same spec but added better hysteresis.
Its a straight swap over just need to double check that all unused inputs are tied and unused outputs are open.
Should have it by monday or Tuesday because there local.
Will do tests on the two builds and let you all know the results.
                Regards

Heck, I'm interested in this too ...
I have ordered the pcb for the baracuda @ silverdog and have
new old stock of some of the components.

I intend to build the original anchor baracuda (non-motion, voltage < 12v and possibly Fe/Non-ferrous tonal differences)
I have been reading heaps about this on the forum but feel how should I say: confused, overloaded, head spinning or going nuts.

I'll be happily jumping into this adventure anyway no matter what the results.

Eagerly awaiting your results on the MC14106B ...
