I recently acquired a vintage Garrett MD - the Coin Hunter TR. I have been looking for operating instructions for it and emailed Garrett. The closest manual they have is for a VLF/TR P.B. Groundhog. The P.B. is for push button, which mine has, but does not have a VLF/TR switch. Mine has a Disc./Normal switch. Is this basically the same circuit board, just different packaging? When it is in "normal" mode is that VLF? I found this MD at a yard sale for $10, figured it would be worth at least that much. The speaker and earphones don't work on it, but I think I have narrowed that problem down to a faulty battery tray. Several of the leads are corroded off. Once I get a new connector soldered on I will see how it works. It appears to function except for the sound, since the meter moves like it should when trying to set it up. Is there a way to tell if this is a 15.5 khz or 5 khz machine by looking at the circuit board? Also, the serial number is 112-29, I think it was only made in 1976 and 1977. It has the regular 8" coil that says Total Response Shielded 4B Type Descriminator. Any help on this machine would be greatly appreciated.
