Hi all,
Just found this forum. Glad to see it. I have been collecting old detectors for a number of years. My total is up to around 50. They are most all pre-discriminators.
I do have Garretts first discriminator. Along with many of the old names, Rayscope, Raytron, Detectron, D-Tex, Ray Jefferson, Goldak, most of the old Fishers, many Garretts, Whites. I am sure I am forgetting many names. Have a Relco that works with a transistor radio.
I am running out of storage room so I have cut back on my buying. I agree with a previous post about ebay. I have found that the prices are getting way to high. Don't know why. Over the years I have lost several good ones to people who were probably just looking for one of them thar treasure finders to strike it rich. And only wanted to spend $150. Looking at their bids they bid on all the low priced junk detectors. The units probably just ended up in the closet or the trash after a few weeks.
I will post some photos at some point. Had most all of them displayed at the FMDAC convention in Niagara Falls this past May. Takes up a lot of table space (and transportation space and a lot of time to set up and pack up).
I also have a quite a few manuals and other literature for the units I have. Would be glad to make copies for anyone who would need one.
Thanks Carl for this forum. I had thought of doing a website for old detectors. Complete with photos, company histories, literature and manuals. One that would be added to and changed/corrected as info becomes available from the visitors to the site. A severe lack of time precludes me from doing it at this point in my life.
