  • Whites detector info

I'd like to get some information on a "Coinmaster 4000/d Series 3". I bought it at a flea market last weekend. It seems to be in excellent condition although I haven't had a chance to thoroughly test it out, I do get a threshold tone and it reacts to the steel toe in my boot . The guy I bought it from said he only used it a few times and it has no problems. I see a lot written about other coinmasters on the net, but can't find much about this model. It came with the original owners manual and another manual (Introduction to G.E.B. Coinmasters by Jimmy Sierra) although the Jimmy Sierra manual doesn't mention the 4000/d series 3. Is this a decent detector? how does it compare to the other coinmasters of this vintage?
I detected for a while in the early Seventies with a Jetco PI, wow I dug a lot of pull tabs back then. In the Eighties I picked up another low end detector as I always seemed to be too broke to afford a decent one. Found some nice coins with it though. About five years ago I bought a Fisher 1280-X and really like it for the beach. Anyway, any info on the 4000/D would be appreciated. This is a really informative site.
    Thanks

Even by today's standards, the 6000/d series 3 is a pretty good detector. It has motion disc. and gets ~80% depth compared to newer models. It has no tone ID, but does have meter ID. (I think, but there may have been a 6000/Di version. I recently sold a 6000/D S3 that had meter ID.)

The 4000/d series 3 is the same as the 6000, but no motion disc. and only a basic meter. The only disc. mode is a TR/disc, which will suffer more depth loss, especially in mineralized ground. I expect it will get 50% depth in TR/disc mode compared with newer models in motion disc. However, it also has GEB mode which gives better depth but no disc.

So, all-in-all, it's an OK detector, certainly way better than Jetco but not as good as the 1280x.

Thanks Carl, I appreciate the information, I'm gonna give it a workout after I read the two manuals a few hundred more times.

      Thanks again

        Coinmaster 4

I still have the White's Coinmaster 4 that I bought new in about 1973 or 4. I found thousands of coins and relics with it, mostly all in upstate NY.
I really looked hard for a handle for the Coinmaster, since a handle stress fracture is all that shelved it. I also own a White's XL Pro 6000 and a GMT.

I did lose a bit of respect for White's customer care, when they coldly blew off my request to sell me a new handle for The old Coinmaster.

I also have a Mighty Mite II that still functions fine.

There's a Coinmaster on the UK eBay website at the moment, and the latest bid is only £10.

Thanks for the picture and info!

My coinmaster must predate that auction, because mine lacked discrimination, but the box and controls are definitely similar.

            I appreciate the picture.

              Hi Carl

I m looking who can provide me with schematics and reviews for Whites 4900/D Pro Plus metal detector.
Last week i got one of this units for very low money. THe detector looks like new and is working ok. I just have some problems to work on Geb/Disc mode, cause evytime i tuned into this mode, there is no way to stop the detector from making any sound even when you rise the coil at your waist.
I hope you or any other friend can help me, because it looks fine to detect a 22 mm coin at 15 to 20 cms deep.

              Regards

              Nelson
