TO MARK S. What do you know about this detector? I got one coming! I know that it used the old-style 9 volt batteries but I think that I will get it converted for the present-day 9 volt batteries! The one that I got looked a little dirty but it should clean up! The original batteries were kept in it but was assured that there was no corrosion! What year did it come out? What model came before it and what model came after it? THANKS JOE

I have an original peice of literature for it. Not sure if I have an actual instruction manual but will look. I will send you copies of what I have.

That was the only detector they made in that style, with the looping type handle. If it has the original batteries then that is a plus. They make for a good conversation piece. They should be the size and shape of a C cell with 9 volt type plugs on each end. If you do convert it then I would suggest making up leads that you can simply clip into the original connections. That way you are not cutting wires and altering the original. I have a few detectors with original connections and some have been changed (not by me).

Here is a little lesson concerning the Orion series. It can be a bit confusing at first.

There were two Orion series. The Orion and the Orion T. The first has two models. The 120 and the 121. They are easily distinguisable by the handles. The stem and handle are one piece and it loops around the box and back to it. The coils are also hard wired.

The Orion T series also has models 120 and 121. Add a 122. These I believe may be the same electronics but in a different package. The handles are a pistol grip style. One has a meter on the handle. The coils are not hard wired. The confusing part is that the coil stickers do not indicate a "T". The ID stickers on some have a "T" added to them and it may not be in the right place. One that I have has the "T" between two lines and way at the end of the line. You don't even see it unless you actually examine it.

This was very confusing to me until I actually found photos of them in a magazine and compared them side by side.

To further confuse there is a TH series. Guess what the numbers are? Yes they are 120, 121 and 122!!! These are not labled as Orion and are labled as "TH". Least the ones I have. They have the pistol grip handles with metal arm rests. Don't know about the guts but they do appear physically different.

I am still looking for two models out of these three series. I know I need the Orion 120 and I don't know off hand which other.

ORION, ORION T, AND TH SERIES

Hi Mark! Which is the oldest of these 3 series? Also in each series is the 122 the most advance or is it the 120? Thanks JOE

I really do not know which is older.

Have to make a correction in my previous post. The "TH" series does not have a 122. It is called a TH Pro. The better detectors would be the higher numbered.

Your copies will go out in the mail on the first day that the post office is open. Looks like that will be wednesday now that the president has shut everything down on tuesday.
