  • Old Jetco?

A coin dealer detectorists friend called me today. Said he has an old detector that someone wants to sell. Said it is all wood and says Jetco on it. It will be a couple days before I can get to his shop. Mainly due to the weather just turning crappy. Been snowing all day and supposed to get worse over the next few days.

I have never heard of a wood Jetco. Anyboby else?

A long time ago, detectorists sometimes put detectors in wooden housings (control box, coil cover, etc.). "Mod jobs" were frequently done with wood, and sometimes there were simply problems with the original housings, which were replaced with wood. Wood was commonly used in non-commercial electronics projects (and pretty much all other kinds of projects) back then, instead of plastic or metal.

I suppose that it is very possible that it was 'repackaged". Will not know until I lay eyes on it.

Ding Ding Ding.....Both contestants to your corners. Itermission - Just in, it is not all wood, it's plastic. The only wood is the shaft that looks to be a broom handle. It is an early 70's. Looked thru old magazines and found that they changed to plastic cases in 1971. Found a few ads and it appears to be the earlier version of the Treasure Hawk.

While looking thru the magazines I saw the Jetco Mustang with the square coil. It was a 1971 ad.

I was thinking if Fred Flinstone was a treasure hunter it might have belonged to him. Until I remembered his was housed in clam shells.

Post a picture, maybe it would be a good platform for conversion.
