Bounty Hunter DE 280 Outlaw
I like this detector, maybe it is because of the green light which glows faintly for deep objects and glows a very bright green for shallow objects! GREAT FOR NITE HUNTING! Of course, it is a VLF/TR design which does have some limitations! Since this thread was originally posted I have seen these sell for a lot less than $200.99...........................HAPPY HUNTING ...............JOE

bounty hunter outlaw de-280
i just picked up one of these de280's and have a question about it. maybe someone can help me about it. when i turn it on, it comes on right away, but the green light is bright and there is no adjustments. not sure why, maybe i am not working it right. also, does the ground balance knob just spin in circles? or is there a stop? also, can anyone find a manual for it for me? scans will be fine.
thanks
tim

Not sure, my DE280 does not have a green light at all. My GB knob is a single-turn pot, though some models use a 10-turn pot which have slightly more drag when you reach the turn limits, but will keep on turning (no hard stops). Sorry, no manual.

Yeolde13, the light can be adjusted by using the tuning control. Adjust it to a faint threshold sound, while also holding in the retune/push button switch at the end of the handle and then release!! At this point the light will be a dim green. I never adjust the volume control to 100%. adjust to about the 75% mark! The threshold is the lowest sound that you can comfortably hear! Mine glows bright for strong signals and weak for deep signals! If yours is not doing this, then you may have set up the tuning blaring and in this set-up it will not differentiate between deep or shallow!...............Also you can look for deep versus shallow objects by also using the meter and the audio!...................................HH....... ...........Joe

Yeolde13, There is a possibility that you have the 2 battery packs connected wrong! One battery clip is for a 9 volt battery and the other clip is for a 12 volts battery pack. If this is connected wrong the detector will not work right! Thanks Joe

I had the larger battery pack on the "A" lead hope i had it right and this didnt cause the problem, any thoughts to what happened?
also have a manual on the way to me they are available throw bounty hunter just email and they will send it out free to you, fron what i understand they have them for allmost all of there older metal detctors .....Tim

I obtained a manual from East Texas Metal Detectors, they seem to have a lot of manuals for old detectors, and Keith Wills sends them out.Only took me 30 years, a lot of useless manuals before I found them. They also do repairs on old detectors, and sell new ones.
