      Dick Smith Electronics

      Yea Carl,

I have built many a Dick Smith Kit back in the 80's. He is a wild guy who
flys all over Australia in his helicopter. I built at least 10 Doppler DF Kits,
Very nice, cost back in 85 was about $100 US Dollars but if you find on on
eBay they have gone for 300 to 400 dollars. I did build a metal detector
from Dick, but it was the better PI type not BFO.

He sold his interest in the store and they still have Kits, but most are for
automotive, music, and little projects. They turned
into a high volume appliance / consumer electronics store.

I did find a metal locator kit that he is selling:

This induction balance metal locator has a good depth of penetration and can discriminate between ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Kit supplied with PCB and components only.

      Features:
This induction balance (IB) metal locator has a good depth of penetration and distinguishes well between ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
It is also capable of rejecting iron and tin foil.
The locator's power consumption is conveniently low. It draws around 10mA, which means that it may be powered off a small PP3 (216) 9V battery (not included). If an alkaline battery is used, this will provide up to 48 hours of continuous use.
Kit supplied with PCB and components only.
      Case optional (use H-2233).
      PVC hardware not supplied.
