  • Bounty Hunter age ?

Hello all, I picked up an older Bounty Hunter at the flea market today and would appreciate any info on it. It's in like new condition but missing the battery cover latch. It seems to work ok, but without the manual I don't know how to operate it correctly. Here are a couple of photos:

Looks like a BH III, I've got one too. Last made around 1975 I think. It's a simple BFO, one knob operation. Turn it on, adjust the tuner until there's a null in the audio... tune slightly off the null to get a "motorboat" sound. To one side of the null metal will give a pitch increase, mineral (& small iron) will give a decrease, to the other side of the null the opposite happens.

Thanks Carl, yep that's it BH III, how did it compare to the detectors of the day?

      Thanks again, Jim

It was at the end of the BFO era, when VLF (e.g. White's GEB) was coming out, so it was a lower-end performer. BH continued making one BFO model (the "Professional") for a few more years, and then dropped BFO for good.

Flyinlow, Are you a Vintage Collector? Or are you just trying to get into this hobby with a very limited budget? I do both! Send me a PM, if you are a newbie I might recommend something that is a little newer than what you are using!! ......................HH...............Joe

Joe, well I'm not a real collector, I just couldn't pass it up for 30 bucks, it was in such nice condition and worked too, I've go a couple of more modern detectors that I use sometimes, a 1280X for the beach and lakes and a coinmaster that I still use sometimes. When I retire I'll have more time to hunt and probably get a new machine.

              Thanks
