Jim, did you ever get it to work? It may be worth the money to get it fixed. This is a Pre-discriminator BFO probably from 1972 or so! The BFO series with the large coils are very sensitive to large iron and I believe most of the old-time caches were buried in iron pots or iron strongboxes! Of course, this can also be done using a VLF detector but the BFO is not as sensitive to the small iron!................HH................Joe
