  • best speaker for baracuda

    hello friends

i still search the best speaker for the baracuda
i tested several units from the small piezo buzzer which is delivered with silverdogs kits
till little active stereo speakers which are connected to 3,5mm audio socket

but what is the best that i can build in as speaker
a classic magnetic speaker (for example taken from a little radio or old headphones)
    or a good piezo speaker
and which specs should it have

i think the simplest solution is the best means without any extra amplifier circuit
only powered from the components already insatlled on the bara pcb

    kind regards

Anything that is high efficiency. (90+db per watt) This may not be easy to tell with most small speakers but you should be able to find a new one that is fairly efficient.

Hi all in my silverdog kit barracuda i used an 8ohm laptop speaker which is only 1"1/4(3 cm) round sounds ok, i have not sourced a 32ohm speaker yet for my own build barracuda and have only used phones.
As i understand it 8,16 32 ohms is fine unless you have the led installed as well, then if its not 32 the led does not work properly!.
I have the led so am looking for a 32ohm speaker( BIG thanks to satdaveuk for reminding me about that)

I would make the nontechnical assumption that the 32 ohm speaker may help battery life as well.

A search on the internet gives conflicting info, in this case i'm convinced its not that important one way or another, unless the led is fitted(as stated before).

Just came across this reading up on the Barracuda. Thought it might be of interest since some people were apparently looking for them.

I was lucky enough to find 32 Ohm speakers (with mylar membrane) in my junked "el cheapo" headsets with micro - different brands.
The plugs usually go wonky after a few years so I just kept them to repair one day (ahem ...).
Saved myself some repairs and got some nifty speakers for the Surf PI & Bara'.

            Here's a pic, Have a great Day!
