  • Even quicker way to add library is to simple copy library to:
    c:\Users\user_xyz\Documents\Arduino\libraries\
    and that's all.
On next starting IDE will recognize it, the same as it was added trough it on regular way.
I really like the way how IDE was done.
This is by far most user friendly software package that i've ever seen.

    • It's a shame they don't update the editor... I cant use it for anything other than simple edits.
I use EditPlus and Sublime Text... Sublime has a plug in for Arduino but I haven't tried it lately...

      • I like to keep all files related a particular development process in one location, for example C:\Arduino or C:\KiCad, having associated files located users/blah/blah is unnecessary and only leads to confusion... It's an inherited weakness from the days past where computer were shared by many (I would hazard a guess that 99.9% of computers working on any sort of development have only one user), perhaps it would be better to call the directory "support" or something more meaningful...

While I'm at it, installing cross platform applications to "Program Files" is not a good idea, most of them will fail if the source folder contains a space, not to mention any command line action will now requires an excessively long path... Sorry for the off topic but sometimes I can't help it...

On a Windoze system. I store all my project data under c:\work
This makes it easier for backups, instead of having to select multiple folders.

On Linux, I keep the files under /home

          • Actually a c: partition is most "risky" place to be!
It is heat and dangerous there!
If you want to keep your work secure and safe; avoid storing it on c:.
Most of the software attacks are mostly focused there.
Also system is doing constant swapping, writing, deleting, fragmentation...etc.
Such activities heats up the surface media layer on that area on disk and it is always under huge risk of losing data.
It is advisable to periodically delete and format c: partition, to keep it in a good shape.
Other partitions are serving there to preserve data archives, installations and backups.
It is also good method to keep other partitions compressed and encrypted... to prevent damage from malicious software attacks that may happen.
Customized batch files are nice thing; you write them only once and no more headaches from long paths.
Next best thing is Total Commander. You can open cmd through it at any current path.
However... your remarks and notices are making sense.

            • I run Windows 7 Enterprise & 10 Pro on my main PC, Linux (more than one distro) on my second PC...
I also maintain a DOS system (I wrote a lot of DOS programs and utilities for DOS years back and can't bring myself to get rid of it)...

Two days ago my windows 10 failed to start, it was screwed, two days of discussion on the Microsoft forum didn't help, it could not be repaired, only option was to reinstall...

This morning my Windows 7 failed to start (after a windows update). This was not the first time it failed to start after a "Windows Update" but on this occasion I have to opt for the "last know good configuration" to fix it.

On occasion I do encounter problems with my Linux distros but have never had to do a reinstall to them but... the only system to work 100% of the time without a single issues in almost twenty years was my DOS box

I disable all windows indexing and any other service that accesses C unnecessarily...
I use at least 16GB of memory to reduce needless activity and am tempted to disable the page file but only if I have 32GB or more ram...

As long term dedicated MS user i realized one thing; never rush with MS products!
                Always give them a time!
I still hesitate to switch on Win10, just because of the many bad comments i seen so far.
                Still sticking at Win7 Ultimate.
And after the selected (manually, relying on long term personal experiences) updates; i disabled any further updates totally.
Also i have very bad habit; to completely manually override registry base.
Also services... tons of rubbish! I use manually to kill most of those.
And lately with powerful i7 i am pretty hooked up on using virtual machine for risky experiments!
Oh how i love it! Oracle Vbox... real sweet!
Everything runs on it... you name it!

                • ATMega/Arduino Pin Assignments

Here's the Arduino/ATMega328 pin assignment Image created with Xara (vector image) so available as large as needed without blurring...
I made it because the one I found with google had one error and became blurred when enlarged so I had issues reading it...

                  Might be useful...

PS, might need checking to confirm all pins are correct...

I use to keep everything under C:\Dev but with so many irons in the fire it became very cluttered, so I now have several development folders all under C:\Web C:\Code etc...

I wanted a way to move everything from 7 to 10 with the least amount of hassle so I came up with the idea of moving all development to a separate drive...

Originally I thought I would only mode the data but later I decided to move the programs and data (this is a little easier for me because I don't store development programs in "Program Files")...

I am also tempted to move some of the development back to Linux...
