  • Hi Bernd,

there is no need to cut anything on board, just remove both regulators (78L05 and 79L05) and measure voltage between pin 5 of 7660 and GND. You should measure some 8.5 V to 10 V, if no than the most likely 7660 will be the problem, but first make sure that both electrolytics (marked on picture) are 25 V.
    And finaly inspect diode D8.
If problem after all those remain trace line from pin 7 of 7660 and inspect everything on that line.

    Regards Marko.

    • I got a bad 7660 with my Baracuda, Silverdog replaced it.

I also ordered one from eBay, .99 cents, shipping included, to have as a spare or another project.

It's possible it was a bad batch of 7660's.

7660s "blow up" really easily if you accidentally connect the battery in reverse. Also, depending on the version, the maximum voltage that can be applied is either 10V or 12V.

        • hello

          thanks for help
but i am still not at the end

i removed 78L05 and 79L05 and measure voltage between pin 5 of 7660 and GND. i measured 9,5V and both electrolytics (marked on picture) are 25 V.
          diode D8 was ok too.
then i placed 78L05 and 79L05 (new one) back to pcb but when i turn on 78l05 still gets hot
seems that it is overcharged - think i will check all what what is in line with "in" pin of 78l05

any other info for voltage of ic´s that i can measure or some test points

or has anyone interest to buy that board 20€ plus shipping within europe
external pots for thres and delay and internal for offset
          regards

Perhaps there's a short on the output of the 78L05.
Try connecting the 78L05 using only the I/P and GND pins, and then measure the voltage on the O/P pin (i.e. with no load).

            • Hello ap consultation, in the photo list two points sorry if my question is what intrigues me ovbia but marked with blue # 1. Because the PCB assembly is a jump and the prototype. No
and number 2 that is going on those two points?
              regards

The link (1 ) can be replaced by a extern pot to make a extern delay.

The switch ( 2 ) is not used.... see the start from the Baracuda post , it is not very clear what the function is...

                    • Pinpointing - puts it into non motion mode. See similar mods made to surf pi in the surf pi thread.

                      • I finish my barracuda, but I feed him the TIP127 burn as an iron warmed anyone knows why this happened because the layout of the PCB is correct

                        • hello
if tip 127 gets hot test following
r of coil not under 2R
L of coil not undr 400micro Henry
damping resistor not lower specs as in shematic (maybe your one hs to high tolerance 320r instead of 330 for example)

i had in mind that the switch was for fine adjust (offset?)

i wasn´t able to see a pinpoint mode when i had switch installed

                          regards

                          • hello, my damping resistor is 330R and my coil has a 3R or so.
Now this function but with 7.53 volts and detects only large pieces of about 20cm or 8 inches in the air.
if I raise the voltage to 12V battery. TIP my 127 overheats to the point of almost melting.
                            I use this circuit for a 2N2222 and four MPF102. and a MPSA14

Did you find the fault on your pcb ?

                              • hello 6666

                                no i havnt found it
have to make my head free, if i look 10 times from one points of view i cant find it
sometimes it is better for me to make a break and look later on it from another point

when it doesnt run next time i will sell a nonworking unit maybe someone is able to find the mistake

at moment i work for the german detektorforum
i make the surf pi pro in a project together with beginners under advice
we have some members there which were here too (2or 3)
but not a stable detector diy thread
hope i can achieve something there

maybe we can get there some technical interested which are able to work and help also here

                                regards
