  • Finished my double layer planar coil (blue one in the middle).
Results are good with very light threshold i got 2€ coin 30cm+.
    Coil has 380mH and 2R8.
All what i need simple and small. Perfect for the playing yards in my neighborhood.
(I know i need a new frontplate after my external pots modded)

    thanks to all for advice

    good sleeping

    • Hi Don, I have noticed similar results while testing my Bara with my 9" coil with different metals at different angles. Thanks for the youtube clip very interesting for sure.

      Best regards,

      • hello

        i changed my lf412 with a tl082
can better adjust unit, think that is a must be mod
if the lt1115 were not so expensive i would try them also as substitute for 5534.
the baracuda is an amazing pi detector- performance never seen before and so easy.

        build it all.

        regards bernd

Thanks for posting mod, I must try this as well. The baracuda is a amazing detector. I have enjoyed watching your youtube video's great work !

Running with a 9" mono coil at normal sweep speeds and a 25us delay, all targets sound the same. But wait! Try slowing your sweep speed and listen to how targets respond.

If it does not work, change sweep angle by 90 degrees. Items that can be magnetized can be easily identified by sweeping your loop parallel to the longest dimension of an iron or steel object. This works no matter how far away the object is from the loop.. as long as it is still in detection range.

Some possible exceptions are, but not limited to:
Thick, round steel items like a 5/8" nut. Still sounds like a good target.
Thin steel on edge can still respond like a good target.

A gold ring on its edge will respond with a double beep one way at slow sweep speeds but not at all from 90 degrees.

The 3 targets at the bottom are, a lead bullet, a coin and a brass rod.

The 3 targets at the top are a nail a block of steel and a fender washer.

Do not under estimate the power of this simple and deep detector..

            Enjoy.

              • hallo now i had the tl082 and the lt1115 on my barra board
1.i can´t regulate the output of 5534/lt1115 to 0 volt (Max is 0,38 volt)
2.i don´t see a increasing of distance or a increasing of sensivity for gold
3.i have formed my 11" coil to an oval and see, much more range, gold ring now 35 cm in air(ok very "light" tone)
now my question what is the best ratio(Dimensions) for a oval coil thank you and greetings from the harz montains

                • hallo vermeer

i use as form a paint bucket 5 liter or 10 liter (farbeimer) for another project in past tiny pi from pulsdetektor.de
but normally oval form increases not the range but you can better separate bewtween objects laying cloth together
the concentration from a round coil is a point /circle and from a oval coil a line

                  • the idea with a paint bucket is a very good idea but i search for a ratio height*width and i have a increase of distance or sensivity i can measure it, i dont no why

                    • hello vermeer,

i think that is a result of changing the electro magnetic field concentration area
you say the distance increase- ok but what effect appears on the side field form coil center maybe a little bit weaker asound coil?

for further questions of coils ask user aziz he made also some experiments
search coils thread aziz also from germany maybe you can call him

                      regards bernds

                      • i think the same,in the middle from the coil is see more distance but in the outter side of the coil is normal ok i will search the forum for the ratio for a oval coil thanks greetings from the harz montains

                        • I did a comparison with the NE5534 and the LT1115 just to double check my original findings. There is a definite volume increase with the LT1115 along with an increase in depth of an inch or 2. My coil is a 12 inch mono with a 452uH with I think if memory serves a 1.31 R. This is a bit more then what most others are using. The original barracuda is at 545uh and 1.24R on an 8 inch coil. Maybe some of you would have better results with these figures? Probably worth a try.

                          • i have good deep too with my 11" coil but i dont see, when i change the 5534 with the lt 1115,a deep increasing of one or two inch, and with the tl082 i step back to tl072 with tl 082 is not stable.
And i have a problem i dont bring the pin 6 to 0 volt with the lt1115,with the 5534 is not a problem is good on 0-0,1 volt, but i will back to bench an tested a little it more. greetings from the harz montains

                            • Help with Baracuda kit

                              Hi,
I'm new to Geotech and see some of you have some experience with the Baracuda PI. I'm building the kit from SIlverdog and found out that some components were removed such as: 1-MPF 102, 1-10k, 1-270k that were redundant?. Can anyone confirm the locations were Q5 (MPF 102), R37 (10K), R26 or R27 (270K)? ALso, what is the procedure for setting the trimmers? Every schematic and parts list seem to be different and I could use some help! I bought a waterproof Whites case and wound a nice coil and can't wait to finish it. Joe

                                Hi Joe

I guess you haven't been getting my emails ?
                                The parts are Q5, R37(10k) and R25(270k)

Adjust the top trimmer to give 0v on ne5534 pin 6
The delay is best adjusted with a scope, but if you can adjust to detect a gold ring your pretty close to perfect
