Hi satdaveuk.
The setting you have to turn on and delay. Find the minimum delay which works well motion and nonmotion. If the delay is too low, you'll get a steady voice in the nonmotion...
When you find a delay that is common to both (motion and nonmotion), then increase threshold.
Best regards.
Thanks Maikl
Will try that procedure and let you know.
Many thanks
Hi
My build is still non motion.
tryed Maikl setup procedure, no joy, changed Q5 for a BF245a as Davor suggested still the same, omitted Q5 and lifted the 270k resistor and still non motion.
Been through all supply voltages with a fine tooth comb, current consumption is normal, connected a 1.5" coil which was built for the minipulse 3 and getting 3" detection on a modern UK penny, and thats without altering damping resistor.
So detection range seems to be working OK, everything is running cool.
So I am left with a Barracuda non motion lol.
Unless anyone can suggest something new that maybe the problem? If not will have to wait until I have repaired/replaced my scope.
The thing thats bugging me is I cant see more than 4-5 components that can give this symptom.
Regards
I understand you are constantly working to nonmotion?
Motion and nonmotion regulate the SW1, maybe you SW1 defective or you have a short circuit on the PCB (excess tin)...

Yes its working in non motion perfectly, in fact since the last posting here which was only 20mins ago I have installed the LED and its working a dream the threshold is stable even in the workshop, with delay kept at minimum its now detecting a modern £1 UK coin at 5" using the 1.5" dia coil which is 650mh at 2.3ohms.
The led without using phones is just as good, getting flickers at 5" and full on at 4.5", so the flickers are accurately mimicking threshold.
What Im going to do Maikl is instead of measuring the components in circuit there going to be lifted at one end so I can measure out of circuit and then do continuity checks on the pcb just to be 101% sure because its got to be there.
The switch one was only ever a link which is cut o/c so the fault is not there but has to be confined to around that location unless Im loosing it that is .
Tell you something though, what ever the fault is its made a dream non motion detector, its just perfect.
In my head if possible once the fault is located shall work from that and modify this detector to have the perfect stable pinpoint option by the flick of a switch and it wont be SW1

Coil of 1.5" (3,85cm)... so you're making a pinpointer.
Maybe Baracuda not the best solution for pinpointer... maybe it's better to find detector smaller power and less power consumption.
If you want to, but then instead of SW1 put wire and and will work continuously in nonmotion.
hello dave
can you make a picture of your solution
and mark the important points
i experimented with sw1 but can´t see that is was to set the detector in nonmotion mode
i only got a constant tone but nearly no target detection
could this be a method for connecting a miniprobe and use it as pinpointer when sw1 i used
i think baracuda is not complete understand
but in fact its one of the best to build pi machines here
i still looking for a way to longer the pulse on time (pulse width) like at the surf pi pro

I agree with you Bernte
By what I have read on here and other research else where, switch 1 was never designed to be a pinpoint mode it was for setting up in the factory before they were sold.
There was never a switch or anything else connected to switch one position on the PCB, in fact if you look closely at the pictures posted of the original Barracuda PCB you can see theres no soldering ever happened there.
To-date what ever there procedure was to setting these detectors up I have not got a clue and by the sounds of it neither does anyone else.
My machine as it stands is working really well as a non motion only machine which to be honest is what I thought this machine was in the first place.
Theres a chap I talked to in another forum that stated he used to own the original Barracuda and that it was a non motion machine and carried on to say he regretted ever selling it.
Now I am in the situation where by do I take his word for it, which would mean that all the builds done on here apart from mine are not working correctly, or more probable that the gentleman in question in fact had a faulty machine from the factory.
What I need to know is, by whos authority stated this machine is designed to be motion format, because if its judging on the fact theres builds been done on here that happen to work motion format then we all need to look further into it.
I have spent quite a bit of time on mine and cannot find any errors, its just non motion and thats the way it shall stay.
When time permits shall knock another one together and see what the difference is, but far this build shall run a switch between two coils one for search and the other for the smaller 1.5" coil and clip it too the stem.
Received a Baracuda kit from silverdog short while ago.
I am bit confused as to why there isn't a "stickied" post in this thread that has the most current schematic, along with instructions for assembly and alignment.

I am bit confused as to why there isn't a "stickied" post in this thread that has the most current schematic, along with instructions for assembly and alignment.
If anyone wants to post the latest [complete] info on the Baracuda here, I will create a Barracuda forum in the Project area with a sticky post at the top, similar to the TGSL project.
FosterVS,
I could use a current parts list and schematic myself. I finally got back to building it, but see descrepencies in the ckt board and schematics posted.
These are the files that work if you follow circuit with parts spec and lay files Alexismex kindly made for us.
Don't deviate with substitute parts and you will produce a nice working Barracuda that gives a nice sharp sound with coloured metals and washed out with iron.
Please look at the Projects section, where you will find a new Forum entitled "Baracuda PI".
Satdaveuk has kindly compiled all the information required to build this popular project, and I have placed this at the top of the forum as a sticky thread.
Hi Qiaozhi
Can you add this to the project file please
Here is the layfile which is Sprint format for those who prefer to use it.
I had to zip it to be able to put on here.
