Question, help? I just found a flaw in this detector that I cannot explain. the detector works fine at good depths with rings, coins etc. (not gold) but will not detect a gold ring even a 2-3 inches. anyone know why? do PI detectors not perform well on gold?

If its working find on coins sounds like everything is okay just needs a tweak here and there
Coil/Damping resistor or just settings

iv'e seen 2n2222's with different pinouts so putting this in wrong is common in this thread.

fixed itthe delay adjustment corrected the gold problem, but while adjusting input voltage I found that the 7660 did not work properly below 11 volts thus causing an unstable -5 volts. I fixed the problem (for now) by unplugging the 7660 and applying -9 volts to pin5 simulating 7660 function. the circuit is now stable and functioning well. silver dime at 10 inches and small gold ring at 4 inches, all other coins, washers, etc at about 12 inches using the 5 inch coil. (22 turns of magnet wire)

Hi all. First thanks for all the help already in here, it's been very helpful! I have 2 questions...
We purchased a pre-printed board and kit from Silverdog. If you look at the attached image, it will make sense. ( I couldn't attach it - so it is here - http://www.delvinginto.com/wp-conten...1/IMG_0995.jpg)
On the board marked as '1', it lists 1N. We don't have a 1N, but have a spare 100N leftover. Has something changed (there were no instructions - just components). That is a large difference, but not sure if I should just go out and grab the correct part per the board screen.
Also, marked '2', on some boards we have looked at, these have been left empty (eg, see youtube here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTEED-2Z_lM) - yet on others all of these points are bridged (eg, from this board - http://www.geotech1.com/forums/attac...2&d=1397405934). Can someone tell me which is correct, or reasons for choosing one way over the other?
I think that is all for now. Thanks again all for being so helpful

if the little cap has 100k written on it its right its actually 1n K100, meaning 1n= 0.001uf(micro farad) K is its class(+/- 10%) and 100 is its voltage rating
but 100n is 0.1uf which is wrong, silverdog does make mistakes(rarely) so it could be wrong but i would double check all the box caps when this happens it is almost always due to the correct part being on the board having been mixed up.
the part you need 1n(0.001uf) will have 1n k 100 on it if it has cap codes written on it it will be 102 K 100 (102 is the code for 1n), hope this helps.
oh your other question dont worry about the bridges, just build it as is, it relates to a delay control but some builders had problems with it, and the simple bridges made the board more stable anyway.
p.s. dont use that cap if the rest are correct and you got the wrong part discard it and get the correct one 1nk100 or 102k100 or 102 k any component supplier will have small caps that rating.

Q5, R25, and R37 are supposed to omitted. My question is where exactly on the board are they "supposed" to go. I've been looking through this entire forum giving myself a headache trying to figure out which component they are. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've looked over the schematic about 12 times and can't figure it out. I'm good at soldering and wiring, not so much in electronics.
