First up date, here is the completed circuit board. Now I have to get a case to mount it in, hook up the pots and mount the meter. then on to coil and a pole and so on. Please excuse the fuzzyness, I'll try to fix that the next time.

Here are some pics of my unit, almost done with it. Now to get the wire and spin up a coil and it'll be time to fire her up and see what cooks.

Yeh I wound a couple in fact. After reading that some guys were having pretty good luck with rectangular coils I decided to go that way. I ordered a shell from Charles (upst NY) and while I waited whipped up a practice coil with Al. foil shielding.

Well the practice coil didn't work so good so I waited for the shell. When the shell got here I wound a coils to fit and wrapped it in plastic and foil, but it didn't work either. I got in touch with Gary and he said he hadn't edsigned the unit with a shielded coil in mind, so I stripped the foil and nothing changed.

I got up with gary again and he suggested and I wound up a quickie 8" round coil, but that didn't help either. I've gone over the board and everything looks like it's in the right place. The Tx, delay and Rx pulses look good and the back EMF pulse is quickly damped with very little ring.

I don't know what the problem is, reckon I'll have to send it to Gary and let him give it a smack with his magic wand.

Nope, the holidays kinda got in the way. As soon as I can after the first of the year I'll sent it off to Gary and let him pass his magic wand over it.

Well I mailed her off to Gary and today he E-mailed me and let me know how badly I'd screwed up. Seems as though I managed to get 2 resistors in the wrong spots, completely missed soldering a pin on an IC socket and horror of horrors a cold solder joint, arrgg.

He says it's working now and that he will cook it in a bit and then send it home to papa. Can't wait to get her finished and get out and do some swinging.

I recieved this detector PCB from Largesarge and have repaired it for him.
Just A Few Small Errors, but it works good now.

I sent it back to him in the Mail Yesterday. But it will probaby take a week or so for him to get it.

Hopefully he will than get this Posting completed.

                            Take care.....Gary
