    Yes it can work, But ONLY if you keep your battery FULLY CHARGED.
    An LM317 can Also Work, But it has the Same Problem. TOO Much Voltage Drop.

    Using the REG1117A on my detector and with a typical current draw of about 100 to 130 mA, it only has a voltage drop of about 1 Volt. The REG1117A will give you Considerably more useable time for metal detecting.

    So why not just get the REG1117A?

      hi

      you can find it in a old computer caeds like modems espesialy intel
      and the two reg's are ok the big transistor and the smaler one wich is atached on the bord completly but the bigger one will increase the hit of the irf and you can reduce it by fan or allaminum strip
