  • How much depth that Gary PI can detect?

    Gary,

My friend gave me 40" and 18" coils from commercial PI. Since I don't have the pulse detector unit am planning to assemble Gary PI using these coils.

Am Yama****a treasure hunter...I wanted to detect deep buried cache...
How much depth that Gary PI can detect using those commercial 40" and 18" coils?
What is the maximun depth that any project here can detect?

The Gary's PI can detect 1x1m metal objects at 50cm to 1m,

Since I have never made any coils that large, I really can't say what distances.
The Largest coil I ever use is 12 inches, but mostly I just use an 8 inch coil.

However the type of metal, physical size and shape of the object, as well as the type of soil will all affect the actual detection distance.

I would suggest to look at the pictures and comments:
Re: "My detector built by others", as posted on my website. It might help you.

        Chemelec,

In your commentaties of other who built the PI...
Darren's metal detector and 40 inch coil.....doesn't say anything about the depth it detected when he made a 40 inch coil for your PI...

Lets assume our target is... one drum filled with concrete and gold bars...buried at 20-25 feet depth....do you think it can detect that depth?

Darren's Metal Detector and "40 inch Coil" in Willow Springs, NC
Darren Says he is Very Pleased and Surprised how sensitive the unit is
              with his 40 inch Coil.
His Friends are So Impressed that 3 of them now want my detector and his coil.
His coil is 40 Inches Square, Wrapped with a Single 12 conductor (20awg Stranded)
"Alfa Wire", Connected in series. But he says he only used 11 of the 12 wires.

Rarely does any detector have Depth figures Posted.

Usually In Air, But Not in Earth.
Earth is Not Consistance and Depth of detection will vary considerably.

                GboyChemelec,

                20 to 25 Feet, NEVER!

                But What: A Steel Drum?
Than it will only detect the Drum, Not the gold.

And If its a Plastic Drum, Detectors will only see ONE Bar of gold.

                But also Consider the Coil?
No matter how good any detector is, it won't work good without a Good coil.

                What a Stupid Conversation!

The result of increasing coil current to increase detection distance is very disappointing. Sampling earlier can dramatically improve detection distance. Somewhere between the 2 is a sweet spot depending on the size of target you are looking for.

The result of increasing coil current to increase detection distance is very disappointing.i knowe that . but not jut gold bar . i want to a scale of 40 inch coil >sensitivity jut a big size metal 3 feet / 3feet

Rajesh this would get better results on Eric Fosters PI forum. Eric knows averything there is to know about PI's he practically invented them!!

                          how deep?

hi .in 1994 1995 after locating greek bronze jugs due to a big lift of earth by a beldozer to open a road .the targets where left at 60 cm. 2 of them were 50 cm in diameter. the 2 locators cscope and 2 box garet couldent locate any new target.i was convenced that there were more.so i made a 48 cm coil for a cscope pulse induction it located a target bronze 25 cm diameter at 72 cm deep.i sold all and buy a mine lab it is not good.i am plannind to buy a cheap locator and wind it with 15 inch coil...the site i know is fantastic....

                              Which MD to build

                              Hi
I sent some emails to you guys... hope you arent dead.
I wanna build good a MD VLF type.
Im not sure what is current and what isnt on the schematics I have viewed.
Also, I dont see any calibration guides.
                              Id like this if possible
Schematic, PCB layout, Coil Head designs, calibration sheet and User manual.

                              Thxs guys.
