  • Coil Recommendations For Geotech Baracuda

I was wondering what people are using for coils?

I'll be using this detector strictly for beach hunting.

I'd prefer to buy something off the shelf vs building one at this stage. Thanks for the Input!

I just build the Barracuda. Playing with coils. I have a Old Surf PI coil here that works quite well. I would think pretty much any decent PI coil could be run on them sense there so Rudimentary. I have a old CoilTech DD and it even runs on the one side of it.

I'm having some difficulty locating an off the shelf coil for the Geotech Barracuda unit. I'd like to keep it under $60.00US. Also, I'll be buying two of them as I'm building this with a friend.

I've considered making my own but I'm having trouble sourcing housings and other misc items needed for the build. In addition, I'm looking to get out on the beach asap so I don't mind buying a couple that's reasonably priced.

I've found replacement coils for various makes and models however, there are no specifications for these detectors, I don't know if they'll work. I'm hoping someone can chime in, maybe a forum member who builds these on the side?

I've not run mine much. But its been fine without a shield for testing. Over dry sand its not a problem. I will be adding one to make it more stable around the rock pools.

              - bara in water, no difference its salt or fresh
              - bara on dry sand

Sourcing a housing is the easy part there are hundreds of options on ebay for less than 20 bucks and most can be had for around 12 to 15 for a nice aluminum case.
