  • SONY PSP USED TO AS A DISPLAY FOR DATA.

    Hi all,
I have had this on my mind for sometime, could a Sony PSP be used in place of a UMPC for displaying data from an Imager for the detection of caches, gold veins, silver, gold nuggets and treasure? It has a USB connection. Ok just a thought. Thanks to you all and God Bless.

    Hi John,
    of course you can!

The procedure would be tricky if you don't know C programming... some unix/linux stuff and some computer graphics...
Anyway, it's relatively simple to make for a skilled person... just need some kind of link (usb) a good PC (also windows OS would be ok) some pspsdk stuff, some make program (cygwin).

A lot of wrapping definitions... and voilla!
I think it could give very good 3D mapping too...

Actually there is enough room and speed on a psp to do a number of good things!

Hi Max, thank you for your reply and I was hoping that someone would at least confirm the PSP as being able to handle this type of operation. Thank you for the link also Max. Unfortunately I am not a software or firmware type although I have used a picprogrammer many times at work. I have no doubt that this would not be easy to do but like you say it would be really cool. I have a PSP of course but am not a gamer at all. I would like to think that something as powerful as the PSP could be put to better use. 3D imaging is also on my mind and using the PSP to display the data would really be nice. I looked at UMPC's and they are very expensive right now. I will take a look at the link and many thanks Max for your encouragement. Ok God Bless ya Max and I wish you happy hunting.

Hi Wirechief, you need any handheld unit with USB. Another is in the MD. MD didn't send too mach bytes to be processed.

Exist a possibility to write an application for the SONY PS-Transpotable to visualize a field-prospection of geophysically detection? For example gradiometer, VLF/LF-Detection and PI-largesharpen?
It´s the best way of use a complete hardware-application for visualize - it´s my opinion.
But, it´s perhaps better to use a notebook or PDA (with WinCE)?
Exist a compiler or evolution-kit for programming PDA´s with Windows CE? Or can i install Surfer Ver.8.01 from Golden-Software on PDA´s?

Hi Seeker, the little Sony PSP seems to be a pretty powerful unit and I was just thinking of the possibilities with it used in conjunction with a metal detector or yes even a magnetometer. Thank you Seeker.

Hi Shatz, thanks for the feedback and yes I am sure that a UMPC would be much better in the long run. I saw where a group was using the PSP as a controller for a robot and could even see on the PSP what the robot could see because they had put a camera on it. It was really cool!
