  • SD Super GoldSearch Coil for HH??

    Hi all,

Have had a HH board for to long and will soon build it up. The question I have is I have a MineLab Super GoldSearch DD? coil from a SD unit. It has two coaxial cables one having 0.8 ohms resistance "transmit?" and one having around 16 ohms "receive?". In order to select the damping resistor for the recieve coil should I just pulse it with the same output and match the damping curves?

Thanks in advance for any help. Karl

    More info

Coil has one winding with 0.6 ohms resistance and 300 uH, the other 16.5 ohms with 450uH.

    What do you guys think???

    Thanks for any help.

The 16.5 ohm coil should be the RX. Use a damping resistor that gives a little bit of overshoot on the flyback decay, then decrease until the overshoot just goes away. That should be close to critical damping.

        11" ML coil

        thanks Carl for the help.

The Minelab/Coiltek DD coils I have here do not need any damping resistor on the RX coil, they appear to have an internal damping resistor on the RX.

            Thanks Raz for the input

I will pulse the xmt coil and look at the rcvr coil and see if it rings.
