  • AN/PSS-12 mine detector coil

I just obtained a couple of AN/PSS-12 mine detector coils. The AN/PSS-12 is a PI detector, and the coil has separate TX and RX coils, not inductively balanced. They are (from memory, I did this last night):

    TX: 245uH
    RX: 455uH

I cut the connector off, stripped the wires, and attached the coil to the new HH Rev D board. I was lazy and stuck 680-ohm damping resistors on both coils, instead of optimizing them. Immediately got an easy 10" (25cm) on my gold ring on the lab bench, noise and all.

This looks like a good coil to use and, at only $10 each, a real bargain. The fellow I bought them from might have more, waitiing to hear back from him.

Will try to post a pic tonight.

Here is a pic of the coil connected to HH-RevD. Outer coil (TX) is 10", inner coil about 7-1/4".

Jake has quite a few of these coils, and has some right now (14 May '07) on eBay. Go to http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZjake1960QQhtZ-1.

      HH Dual Coil completed (Picture)

This HH uses the AN/PSS-12 coil.

Using this coil, what values are the damping resistors?

Additionally, is the jumper (for L2) installed?

        Thanks,

        Joe

          AN/PSS-12 Dual Coil terminations.

          Hi Joe

          R11 Is 560 Ohms

          R14 is 1000 Ohms

I removed the AN/PSS-12 connector to expose the coil leads for hook-up.

Here is how I connected them:

Clear wire - Transmit coil HIGH
Blue wire - Receive coil HIGH
Black and Red wires are common and connect to the center connection of the terminal block

            L2 Jumper

The L2 jumper is required for single coils only.

Do not install for the dual coil AN/PSS-12

                Hi Joe

                I made an error..

                Correction on coil connections.

Clear wire - Transmit coil HIGH
Red wire - Receive coil HIGH
Black and Blue wires are common and connect to the center connection of the terminal block
