  • HH Pulse width

Carl I am trying to figure out why my pulse width duty cycle went to 50%.
I noticed that Q3 was getting extermely warm and checked my pulse width and Freq. Well the pulse width is now running 50% duty cycle. I can adust it up along with the Freq but cannot get it lower than the 50%. Would D8 cause this or just a bad 555 timer? It was ok just a day ago. No I have not replaced either component yet but will tonight.

disregard the last post. When I got home last night I started checking the pulse width and it was correct. Maybe I have a cold solder joint or something. Anyway it is working now.

      Cold Solder Joints

      Ray you are correct!

I bought a Bounty Hunter that I was told was not working at a swap meet.
I opened it up and looked at the board. All the solder joints looked very dull
and some were pulled off the board. I said ok and purchased it for $10.
I slowly went joint to joint with rosin and silver solder. All were shiny and
clean after I was finished. Added voltage connection and slowly brought up
the voltage. Nothing, then checked the 5V regulator, no output, I then replaced it.
Then brought up the voltage again.
Everything worked fine. Not bad, a $10 Bounty Hunter! You never know what
      you can find out there.

        Radioactive
        Thanks for the example.
Yeah I have been bitten by the cold solder joint before.
So I have to pull the bd out of the box and go over all of the connections having to do with the 555 timer. At 50% duty cycle it can really heat up Q3
I have a tendency anymore to touch it and make sure it is not too warm.
Thats when I found out it was really warm.
