Hi CC,
HH2 is intended to be a microcontroller version of HH1, useful mostly as a learning platform for uC design & programming. It will have non-adjustable pulse parameters. HH3 is intended to be a more advanced uC design with LCD display and adjustable parameters. I've actually worked on both designs, and even spun HH2 into an ultra-low-power security wand design. But I haven't gotten round to getting them ready for the masses.

Hi Clondike Clad,
Those 4" coils are good for nugget hunting in streams. In my case, I want a probe for finding my target after digging a hole that's usually dry, but sometimes wet from the ocean water. I found the 1/2" diameter rod type work pretty well to locate the target up to 3 inch distance, and they're also good for sniffing in crevices and other places hard to reach for a regular search coil. But I have an IB type that doesn't work very well in ocean water, and isn't even waterproof. Also, the sensor is not really at the tip, so you need to remember the strongest signal is about 2 inches above the tip when locating a target.
What I would like to do is make a waterproof PI probe with tiny coils that works on low power and also floats.
Best wishes,
