virtual ground/split pwr supplies

Hey all, I have yet another question. I noticed the the 'ultra headphone' techies prefer a 'virtual ground' type of split pwr supply.
So...the question(s) is...what are the pros vs. cons.
It seems that eliminating the 7660 (IC1), and it's noise/sync problems would be worth it. I think the ML SD's use such a scheme, don't they?
Anyway, thoughts? Gregory.
