  • Powerful PI or Hammer Head (how to increase power of coil?)

    Hi to all,

I want to increase current on the coil. I am getting 10 ma but I want 200 ma.
    I have made a coil which is 1X1 square meter 26 awg by 30 turns. I changed condenser c8.01 to c8.1, r3 1.5 ohms to r3 680 ohms, r4 10k to r4 1k and r12 1k to r12 2.2k.

But i am not getting any increase in the power of coil.
If i remove r9 from the circuit, I get power increase in coil but circuit does not work properly.
I want to know what are other options to increase the power.
Gary has connected 555 IC directly with Q3 740.
Can I do what Gary has done to increase power of coil?
Or any other option to increase the power?
How to increase pulse rating of coil?

    Try This

    rajesh,

Try 12 turns of AWG 26 rather than 30 turns. You have a coil with too much coil inductance for the Hammerhead Circuit.

      More like 8 turns.

          hh power of coil

          8 turn 1meter/1meter320uh

I has built a coil that large, but I just built one about 10 inch diameter it worked fine, so I know that..

If the coil is built keeping the inductance the same as your standard coil, then you shouldn't have to change the value of any resistors.

You will probably have to use a longer delay to make the coil work, but this is because of the increased capacitance of the larger coil.

Just remember to try to keep the inductance the same for all of all coils you make for the detector and it should work.

You could use a larger inductance but this would also require a greater delay to make the coil work.

In the case of the larger coil. I did lower the inductance a little which required the damping resistor be changed. I just added a resistor in the plug on this coil.

but i need to fix frequency and pulse width.........rajesh

hi bbsailor actually im planing to built a medium size object detector no coin shooter. i built a coil 13.5 / 13.5 inch square 26 awg wire 320 uh mono coil inductor calculator calculeted a round coil 10 inch dia meter 68 feet wire i determine 15 turn can you tel me better result

15 turns is about right for this coil with a 53.5" perimeter. This is equal to a 17" round coil.

See my article for more coil making details.
