  • component upgrade?

While wandering thru this forum I noticed a coupla threads discussing noise problems on TP4,6. A book I recently bought and have been wading thru (Practical Electronics for Inventors) states that carbon comp resistors tend to be pretty noisy. I was contemplating using 1/2w metal film throughout the circuit in order to minimize internal noise. Other than a bit more cost involved, is this a reasonable thing to do, or would it have some unintended results I'm not hip too?

Same question regarding the use of multi-layer ceramic capacitors?

And again using conductive plastic or cermet pots and trimmers?

    GM,

Yes, the metillized components will be less noisy and most builder here use these. However, may not be that much of an advantage, but does not hurt to use top quality components.

On the resistors, 1/2w is too large for most resistors on standard HH pcb. Anyway when ordering parts pay attention to size to match pcb.

Also IC 5534 not all manufactures are same, use Philips if you could obtain.

    Good Luck,

    Molzar
