  • Coil wire diameter

Hello, I have a technical question: can I use a different wire diameter for coil construction? I think it's possible but I don't know if I must rewind a different number of turns or if it can work with same number of turns.
I have bought enameled copper wire for another project (Mark Stuart EE treasure hunter) and it's a 0.71 mm one.
If someone can give me such an information I will try out soon

    coil calculator

one of the members here posted a coil calculator

I have attached again just in case you can't find it

Thank you! Now I have used the old coil to test everything is working.
I will soon optimize using this tool.
      What must be matching? Inductance?
      Original:
26 turns, 250 mm diameter, 0.4 mm wire: 1.215 mH
      I computed this:
27 turns, 250 mm diameter, 0.71 mm wire: 1.178 mH
28 turns, 250 mm diameter, 0.71 mm wire: 1.263 mH
      Is it correct?

The wire diameter is not critical, use what you have and keep the same number of turns.

Your calculations are incorrect. You have entered the diameter of the coil into the calculator instead of the radius.
