You should concentrate on making a fast coil. See this article:

Pay particular attention to shielding method and use shortest possible cable to minimize capacitance. Be sure to make a relative small diameter coil, ~270mm maximum diameter, smaller would probably be better.

You might also change preamp feedback resistor R13 for lower gain to help the amplifier recover more quickly. Try 470kΩ.
Use short pulse width tx signal and increase PPS frequency.

There are some other things you could try but I could not suggest them unless you tell me you have a dual trace oscilloscope. Modifications often have unintended consequences. You could modify one thing, then something else needs adjusting because of it, and so on and so on.
