hi all i think i just fried my minipulse plus rev c, i saw 47n smoke up, and my reject sample delay wont work, i think short circuited the unit when i was sorting out the coil connection. need lots of help.
cheers
Hi gdogg, if the capacitor is C6 it is probably not bad; most likely the smoke came from the nearby U4 (NE555) which is the driver for Q1, (IRF740 MOSFET). Any shorts while probing or mistakes in coil wiring will destroy the driver. To verify this run the checks in Step 3 and Step 4 of the build manual. If the steps are dead then replace the NE555 with the NE555 from U10 and rerun Steps 3 and 4 again. If U4 is fried it will probably fall apart when you remove it from the socket. The 555 chip is a common inexpensive chip made by several manufactures. It is interchangeable with almost any other part that has 555 on it. LM555 and NE555 are the most common numbers. It is good to have a few spare 555 chips available if you don't have a store nearby.
