    However as noted

One reason not to the ampage is different, i.e. original (79L05) is
    -5 Volt 0.1 Amp

the possible replacement is (7905) -5 V and 1A current. Couls this cause problems later...
    Also
the legs are a little large for the holes in the board but I think they could be adjusted with a fine file
if you file anything file the leads on the 7905, some sand paper will take it down a bit, dont make the holes bigger it will destroy the via(the two sides of the board wont be connected together anymore).

so if you have to use the 7905/1a, you will have to either make the leads smaller(diameter not length), or if you must make the holes bigger solder the topside and bottomside of the board.

Just solder 3 pins (legs cut from other components is easiest) into the existing holes and then attach the regulator to that. No need to modify holes or file pins.

I got this reply from another forum...

You need input and output capacitors on the 78/79xx range of regulators and you need to be aware that both devices have different pin outs and this could be your mistake. So, try checking the wiring diagram in the data sheet and measure the output off load just to confirm it is producing -5V.

Actually the pin out for both 78 and 79 devices is easy to remember.
Pin 1 is most positive voltage (0V on a 79xx and input voltage on a 78xx) Pin 2 is most negative voltage (0V on a 78xx and input voltage on a 79xx)

Does it make sense to you. I think the writer thinks I got the wrong component...but it suggests that there should be two capacitors i think.

There are caps in the circuit so you need not worry about that. The writer is correct with the pin outs of the regulator though.

Hi. I am new to this and I am interested in building this Minipulse Rev D and so I have downloaded the 20 page pdf document.
On page 11 it shows a multimeter connected between Pin 4 of U8 and Battery +ve, but the multimeter shows that it is set to the AC setting. Is this correct? or should it be on the DC setting?

              That's funny ... I hadn't noticed that!
Of course, it should be set to DC.
For pedantic correctness I will photoshop the image, and fix that in any future version.

                Hello Qiaozhi,
Could you please provide me the layout for the Rev D schematic?
                Thank you !

I didn't realise until now that the Gerber files were missing from the REV-D project, so I've just uploaded them -> Minipulse Plus REV-D
