stuck at step 7 (board b)

hi all, seems my enthusiasm got the better of me, i was only saying the other day i'm close to finishing but now i'm stuck.
i have followed the build plan block by block, the board has passed each stage up to and including step5, but after building 6 and 7, i see no change in voltage when a can is placed near the coil, it is static at 600mv.
so i thought i would see if i cocked up something, here is my board maybe i missed something,

it maybe simple, i may have to go back to the start, i built this without my scope for two reasons, one to test the build plan and two my scope is at the caravan and unavailable till easter weekend.
so while i have my test gear, i dont have a scope(for now).

Did you short pin2 of PL3 to either pin 1 or pin 3? It appears to be open-circuit according to your photos.
You need to temporarily do this when making the tests, since the Reject pot is not connected at this time.
