  • LM7905CT a suitable replacement for 7905L?

    As the title says, is LM7905CT a suitable replacement for the 7905L -5V regulator? Apart from the slightly larger pin size and current rating it seems to be equivalent however I want to be sure before I blow something up :P

    An LM7905 can be used as a replacement for an LM79L05, if that's all you have available.
    The main differences are:
    LM7905 => 1A rating (in your data sheet, but some will go to 1.5A), TO-220 package
    LM79L05 => 100mA rating, TO-226 package

        And there I was thinking it's a TO-92 package.
        The other main difference is consumption, but the benefit of using the to-220 case. (1Amp) is that you will have a much smaller drop-out voltage.

          Actually, that should have been TO-92 for the LM74L05, which is why I shouldn't make posts late at night.
          You can also blame Farnell, who have the Fairchild version listed as TO-226A.

            You meant "79L05", or I hope so
            Don't worry, I will also blame them too.

            Btw, since I am new here, I will try to pm you, since "I have an idea"...
