Can 1N914 diodes be used in place of the 1N4148's?
It seems they can and may be a bit faster?

I don't recall there is any difference between them. I use them interchangeably. -

A few years ago restoring a Garrett Groundhog it had 914's. Garrett said the replacements they send or use in place of the 914's were 4148's.
I have used both, see no difference.Comment

I agree.
Read somewhere that the 914's have more magic for detecting in them.
Of course I played "spot the difference" with the data sheets of them and the 4148's.
